Re: Where You Disagree With Congrove...

Wow...I guess from what Congrove says...nothing means nothing until some games get played. sounds just like us...LOL. Thanks, Admin...for the input and the explanation. Positively true. Before any games are played, it's just entertainment. I'm always surprised by some of what comes out, but it's th...

Re: Where You Disagree With Congrove...

A "power ranking" to most folks means that a team ranked much higher than another would be more powerful than another..and thus favored. Sagarin's power and Steele's for example. CCR may call it a power ranking but it is more of a "expected result" ranking..IMHO Edit...I still w...

Re: Where You Disagree With Congrove...

Yaeh...but Congrove purports this to be a "power poll" not a poll based on the schedule. I disagree with his ranking of power on some of these teams...and the schedule should have nothing to do with a straight power ranking. Perhaps you are taking too much from a casual definiton on site ...

Re: Bowl Pick'em Stats

From our aspect, we'd like to try to create more interest in any type of pick' em game on the message board as a means of drawing in more particpants and regular board users. Therefore, anything that takes less demand off of season-long particiaption is probably a good thing. The confidence points i...

Thanks to all the voters and group leaders. A huge to thanks to Spence, too, who spent an inordinate amount of time on this.

Re: Lightening strike twice?

Appy State, according to Sporting News, is preseason #1 again in FCS. It points out that Armanti Edwards returns at QB and the "D" returns its entire front 7. Don't take the computer's 40+ points too seriously. This is a discussion we had last preseason - the computer doesn't individually ...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

No, it started silly when someone made what's pretty obviously a ridiculous claim: Ball State does not have a single win against any team at any time outside the MAC...not one... I like everyone here , and the varied opinions they bring, so don't get me wrong. I've read many of your posts and respe...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

Sometimes I marvel at how dense I am. See if I have this correct. Numerical Rankings ...who is the best 1 to 119 Based on criteria that is not all that verifiable...human more so than computer but even then some issues... computer will give you consistency if data is not changed. Power Rankings...W...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

If you want this to also be your basis for ranking teams, then, for the most part, you are taking all of the conferences outside the Big 6 and ranking them below vurtually every team in those conferences no matter how well they do against their schedule. Not every team...but maybe the top half of t...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

I agree re changing to suit BCS, Spence...even Sagarin states that his BCS rankings are not as predictive as his "Predicter" rankings. The question isn't about the tests per se, it is about Norming. When you look at teams in any way that doesn't reflect the totality of their position with...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

If you are just ranking teams with the primary focus on how they do with their schedule, than SOS is a minor player. And..LOL...CCR..I have FSU at 7-5 this year...I would be thrilled with an 8-4. Getting Virginia Tech from the other Division this year makes for a little tougher schedule...VT, Color...

Re: Don't Understand Congrove's Algorithmns

Ding! Ding! NO THANK YOU Is a 9-3 Ball State comparable to a 7-5 Alabama? That is the question. When we rank the totality of IA teams, we are ranking them against their "peers" and peers means all 120 or so teams. How a team does against its peers (defined as the schedule) vs how another ...
