When you coach in a state where pomposity at every level is a way of life and arrogance is look on as a virtue, then that is what you get and what you must seek. Brown served Texas well by their standards, and that is all that really matters.

Donovan, I live in Texas now and I don't recognize it from your description. On average, Texans are quite a bit friendlier than are those who live in the Pacific NW. They do however magically transform into rude jerks the moment they get into a car, for some reason.

I too lived in Texas and I did not get that sense when we lived there...many years ago, San Antonio.....but from afar, that is how I see it...and you are right....Northwesterners, especially those that have taken over, have a entirely different demeanor and not all that good. I am just getting old.

I agree about Texas being generally friendlier than other places (even among the rest of the South), but I'm surprised how much that is changing....for the worst.

Donovan, I don't know how you handled the Hawaii Bowl. 8)

It must have been torture trying to either pick a winner or stay neutral.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I am not for sure, with all the resources at Texas and pretty much having their pick of recruits, I think Mack under achieved.

He took over from 3 consecutive underachievers so you may have a point. Except 158 wins over 16 seasons (you do the arithmetic) is pretty amazing. I doubt anyone else has that record even coaching over multiple teams of 16 years for comparison. Believe me, I don't care for the University!
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

OSU had more to gain by winning. Riley needed that. Boise gets a fresh start and so the loss doesn't affect much. I was OK and from the people in attendance, two of the four were at the hot dog concession so nobody really noticed the loss.

Jameis Winston tried to call Mack Brown cause he wanted to go to Texas. That's three straight Heisman winners who wanted to go to UT and were not recruited or turned down.

wow!!!

Considering inconsistent QB play has been the downfall in Austin these past few seasons, that statistic is pretty telling.

Actually:

In 15 years at Oklahoma, Bob Stoops has posted a 161-39 record [.804], finished with twelve 10-win seasons, won eight Big XII titles, gone to 15 Bowl games, is the coach who has the most BCS Bowl game appearances with 9 [Saban appeared in 8], winning 4 BCS Bowls, and [with last night's win] is the only coach to win at each of the 4 BCS venues.

I'd say they is pretty darned amazing.
