The Sunbelt is dropping the University of Idaho and New Mexico State. "Wishful thinking is not idealism. It is self-indulgence at best and self-exaltation at worst. In either case, it is usually at the expense of others. In other words, it is the opposite of idealism." Thomas Sowell

Re: Sunbelt Purge
New Mexico State is not competitive...not even in what many rate as the weakest conference....
They have won 8 games total in their last four seasons, three of which were non FBS. Soooo....they won a little over 1 game a season against FBS competition while playing in a FBS league.
In the last 10 seasons, New Mexico State's high point was winning four games in a season....
They need to drop back and play at the level that they can support....FBS has been tried...and failed.

Re: Sunbelt Purge
Indeed, they do. It is the Sunbelt that is delusional if they think this will solve their problem You will see more of this until, and I think in a short period of time, there will be a NCAA Super Level with about half of the current teams playing in the FCS. Now that I think of it, why not just mimic boxing. Heavyweights, Ohio State, FSU...Bantamweights, University of Idaho. I think Boise State could be a Welterweight. I just like the word Welterweight because other than in boxing I have never heard it used and it certainly has nothing to do with welter...I digress.

LOL Donovan....your posts are a perfect definition of "welter".
As in a welter of facts, semi facts, and musings.
(Don't take umbrage...my posts are similar but I thought it funny that you didn't see this use of welter)

That is why I like this site so much. It demands of me continual self-introspection. "a large number of items in no order; a confused mass." I am now committed to hone my weltering.

Re: Sunbelt Purge
I think New Mexico State would be better served as a program in either the Southland or the Big Sky. The WAC though provides a pretty easy route to the NCAA tournament in basketball if that's what they want to hang their hat on.

The WAC provides an easy route? In college basketball with their tournament everyone gets a ribbon. No who gets in....but who is left out. Football is close behind.
