In the course of the season there are usually 2 or 3 games in an undefeated or 1 loss season that are abnormally or unexpectedly close. When it is over no one remembers the score just who won.
How many times at the season ending banquets coaches say "we were 8-4 but only 9 points away from winning 3 of those losses and could have been 11-1!". Conversly if you look at the close wins they could also say "we were 8-4 but won 3 games by a total of 9 points and easily be 5-7".
