Boise State and Brigham Young

Postby donovan » Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:22 am

Boise State and BYU have just signed a 12 year home and away deal. This includes the four year deal previously made. There is a $225,000 guaranteed exchange. Not much money compared to most schools. BYU has one of those obscene ESPN TV deals which makes this good for BSU, they get a game with guaranteed good TV coverage. It also gives BYU some good extended fan support for other games as they come to Idaho, as the LDS population there is like unto Utah.

Boise State should probably lobby the conference to get a better TV deal. Boise State will have their early non-conference and/or road games on ESPN, but once conference play hits, nobody is going to see them. The current TV deal for the MWC (that I don't believe any member is really happy with) is the big downside for leaving the WAC. Now their home dates can only be seen on CBS Sports, Versus, or The Mtn.

You are absolutely right about the TV coverage. They have worse coverage this year than in the last five. Part of it was because they were one of the first on that Thursday night...no competition...scheduling which gave them a lot of ESPN time. But this year they are on channels we old guys don't even know exist. (you know my kids all have TV's where you can just sit in your chair and press a button and it changes channels. They don't even have to get up and go turn the knobs...spoiled generation. Maybe that is why I don't mind the blue turf on TV..it is always a dark gray.)
