It appears as if Mullen is a "downs and distance" guy. He calls a play and it doesn't matter how the D lines up to the offensive formation. He doesn't seem to signal in a play based on the defense. RR offense was very good at being able to take advantage of your scheme...Jimbo is of the Saban school and they do the same.
That is huge in the spread. And it appears that Mullen is doing the calls, but I think he has not done it well, doing it very often last game...likely too much. I think Geno has done a few double-takes at his read calls...and I think Coach Stew and some others have not been happy either, and these have used a few timeouts, others in penalties. I think a team should have 10 or 12 auto-check-downs to call at the read, highly rehearsed and options available (in-play). Then if the coach signals in it is because he sees something notable he wants exploited.
