I've seen a couple terrible calls today:

1. Mark Dantonio subbing in Maxwell when he hadn't played a snap to engineer a touchdown drive at the end of the game.
2. Kyle Flood running the football when kneels would ice the game away, risking a fumble for no apparent reason.
3. Jim McElwain not hustling his team to the line to run a snap when a no-call fumble occurred that Alabama recovered. Basically cost his team whatever slim chance they had to make a game out of it. They took forever to get the snap and the refs blew the play dead just as the late snap went off.
4. Matt Wells calling a fake punt in Utah State territory by having a tight end (or so I believe) throw the ball, costing them vital field position early in the 4th quarter.

I'll tell you what has been driving me nuts in many games this seasons so far.

I can't tell you the amount of time that gets wasted, with several seconds in between plays, when one team is down, and they either don't call a timeout --- or they don't spike the ball after getting the first down.

I get rushing to the line to keep the defense off balance . . . but, when you let the clock roll under 3 minutes, and you need to score twice . . . You Have To Stop The Clock!!!

I feel that clock management in general has been awful. Teams are way too patient late in the game as you alluded to. You have to know the circumstances. I remember in the TCU/LSU game there were 6 minutes on the clock and TCU was down 10 with a 4th & 2 on TCU's 30 something yard line and they punted. Now I don't know about you, but in order for TCU to win, they would have had to convert that. Punting the ball away and using up your timeouts and getting the ball with 3 minutes left to score ten points is the best-case scenario? What are the odds of pulling that off? Not only that, but you have to factor in the likelihood that they wouldn't stop LSU easily and they didn't. TCU never even saw the ball again. Horrible game management but it's part and parcel of college football today for some reason. They don't make the right calls at the end of the game. It's not even about risk at that point. The point is IF you are going to pull off an improbable comeback late in the game, THEN it requires you converting those types of plays.

And, IF you are going to hurry to the line . . . you need to hurry up and snap the ball . . . Not Let 20 Seconds Roll While You Stand There Trying to Get the Call From the Sideline!

Coaches need to prepare their players better, so that when these situations occur, they already have a number of plays they can run to the line and snap, making the calls on the field.

Way too much time slips away while the coaches call the plays after the offense hurries to the line.

Just snap the friggin' ball, and spike the stupid thing . . . then you can talk it over.

Boise going for 2 early in the game instead of just kicking that pat, ended up costing them a chance in overtime.

Most stupid coaching decisions would be genius if they were successful.

In hind sight....but their play calling was terrible and their execution was nil......long season I am afraid for the Broncos.

This is true, but I think coaches need to think probabilistically about their decisions. I think McElwain's inaction and Flood's decision were stupid any which way you look at it. With Dantonio and Wells, I think it was more unnecessary risk. The Utah State game was all about defense at that point and it was a field goal game at the time if my memory serves me correctly. A punt would have given you a better chance to get in a position to tie the game.

Stoops is showing his moron today . . .

Several plays inside nd's 5, and he keeps running the ball right at the d. There simply isn't any room.
He just tried for one pass call . . . but not to the endzone . . . to the 2 yardline.

Why not line up in a run formation, play action for the touchdown.
ND is boxing everyone on the line in these short yardage situations.
They only spread out when the offense did.

If the Sooners show run, and pass . . . the irish will bite . . . Stoops! What are ya thinking . . ?

Oklahoma is now up by 13, after their second fieldgoal from inside the 10.

I thought Bell had a pitch available, but he ate it for the safe play. I would let the Belldozer toss it around a little more often, but Stoops knows that with goal to go, he likes pounding it up the middle with Bell.
