If USC looks any farther for a Head Coach, I think they are nuts.

I agree. The players have really responded to him. I think he should get a fair shot to rebuild.

He did a great job of recruiting at Ole Miss and Houston Nutt was the beneficiary. I think most schools are looking for the flashy hires. The flashy hires will often prop up the donations, and as our own Donovan always says, "Money Rules". I was hoping Lane Kiffin would stay there for a long time.

I don't think he will be back as a head coach, unless he miraculously beats Stanford and UCLA both. I don't think even one of them will do. Like you said, the thing with USC is that they feel like they can lure just about anybody in the country and probably feel that this person would be better overall than Orgeron. Fair or unfair, Orgeron already had that three year stint at Ole Miss and it was an abject failure outside of recruiting, so he might be stigmatized for that.

Someone has to explain to me what Coach is going to go there and have a winning program, I am talking going to the final four, or what ever ESPN moniker, next year's fiasco is going to be. They are looking to rebuild a program in 27 seconds. And it's not Moscow, Idaho...on that point, Eric is pretty well spot on.

They can rebuild fast at USC because they have a recruiting base to do it. The problem, I see, is if they think the answer is spending 6 million. If I would do the hiring, I would find the right coach and then negotiate the salary, not the other way around. by floating this figure they are trying to get coaches to contact them.

Totally agree. I am sure there are coaches out there that could do a great job for far less money. These salaries have gotten way out of hand.

If you made six million a year, you would have to cancel afternoon practices so you could count your money. Because when you get behind counting your money, as only Spence and Mr. Billybud know, it is just too stressful.

That seems to be the problem with USC at the moment. When you believe that paying a guy 6 million will make him a great coach instead of finding a great coach and then paying him. Sumlin may be a great coach, I think that he needs to focus more on defense.

There are some good coaches that if USC is willing to cool their jets for 15 minutes may want the job. That is the key, what coaches want that job, then does USC want them.

Who do I think they should go get.....

Jim Tressel....He coaches again, redeems himself from a mosquito that got swatted with a sledge hammer. He does not take a job that in the big picture is a lesser university football program and he gives all the credibility the USC is looking for. He get all the assistants he wants, and the university will listen to him and not second guess him. Do they make Orange and Maroon sweater vests?

Tressel has a show cause against him. He isn't eligible for two more years. It looks like he may be the next president at Akron, but who knows he may still want to coach. I just doubt USC wants to wait for him.

I was reading about Miami OH being rumored to have contacted Tressel. Nobody knows why. It would be a huge slap in your face to your own team and to possible recruits if you hire a guy that will actively prevent you from going to a bowl game for the next two years. And I don't remember if his show cause prevents you from participating in championship games or not. Either way, I could see Tressel closing out his career in the MAC considering he is an Ohio guy.

I would be surprised if he coaches again. He has always been an academic and I think being a college president would be where he would like to end his career.

I normally hate USC just a little less than Notre Dame....but in this case, I'm fine with them blowing everyone out for the rest of the year.

It will make the unmentionable coach look even worse!
