A Great Thanksgiving to Us All.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families.

Turkey & giblet gravy, collard greens & green beans (both seasoned with salt pork), squash, mashed potatos, corn bread/oyster dressing, and all the goodies....My son will, as always, tank up...

He demands that we keep to the traditional food that he was cooked as a boy..and the menu does not vary at Thanksgiving.

Everyone have a great thanksgiving with their families....

Went out for breakfast. May have a bowl of soup later today. Just another day in our household.

Exactly save the collard greens...though I like greens.....and after everyone has eaten until they can eat no more, the Imperial Russian Army's five brigades could eat and there would still be left overs.

We still go to my mom's house. She is 80 and she still insists on making the whole dinner. It offends her if you try and bring something.

Thanksgiving is an important time for us.

A family builds its own mythology, legends, and sense of history. It is at Thanksgiving where my family traditionally transmits a sense of this family to the younger generation.

I, as a child, listened to my grandparents relate the stories of the Civil War, indian fighting, and 19th century farming that their grandparents told them. I listened to my grandfather tell of courting the pretty red haired girl who lived on the next farm, upon return from France in 1919, on his 1915 Harley. I have a great old picture of the two and his bike.

Now, with my boy who hardly knew my parents (they died when he was 5 and 9), we add the stories of my dad going in at Ste. Mere Iglise on D-Day, of his maternal GGG grandfather being killed by a bull, of my long dead brother who followed me into the Corps...

We tell the old stories of my family and add the old stories of my wife's family....and, although heard before, it is reinforced every Thanksgiving. As sure as we serve the same menu every year, preserved from my GG Grandparents' table, through my grandparents and parents to me and now to our son.

And, I kind of think, that 50 years from now, these stories, greatly augmented by new ones, will live on in another generation.

I think Pelini might be done after that performance. It wasn't just the game, but his deflecting of the blame and his demeanor at the press conference will leave a sour taste in the administration's mouth. Assuming Mack Brown retires like it sounds like he might, we could have USC, Texas, Florida, and Nebraska all open this year.

A belated Happy Thanksgiving.

I love some dressing with gravy.....except on Friday's. @AcidReflux

I think some of the best about the Thanksgiving dinner are the leftovers for 2 or 3 days. No Turkey or big dinner this year for us, just a regular day.
