Time For NCAA and Coaching Changes To Be on the Table

Postby donovan » Sat Dec 07, 2013 6:05 am

Not sure where I am on this subject. The idea schools go to bowl games as the crowning game of the year and all the coaching changes take place prior to the bowl games and said coaches do coach their teams in the bowls approaches ludicrous. Somewhere college activities, including football, needs to be about the students. I think this could be an easy fix. No talking or discussions with coaches under contract until the school season is complete. If the NCAA has any testicles, which the don't, they could get this situation under control. Schools presidents, who also have no balls, could make it happen by their vote. What this would do, is insure all the rah rah preached all year by coaches get carried through until the school's season ends. Seems to me to be the responsible mature thing to do.

What's the institution we're talking about here? 8)

It wouldn't be a bad rule, but the problem is that the bowl games are exhibition games and they occur so close to signing day. The new coaches want their staffs set up as soon as possible and they need to do some last-minute recruiting.

It seems that, often, it is the schools that let coaches go before the bowls rather then after the season is over...both assistants and head coaches...

Particularly if there are recruits wavering because of poor team performance, a school will want to send a message...'We are uptooling...new model to come"...

A chance to call recruits and sell them..."we are bringing in a great coach. Do you want to get in on the ground floor and rebuild this program?"

I watched FSU do that as Bobby faded and his last year's record in 2009 at 6-6 was the worst i 35 years....the 2010 class (Jimbo's first) was sold on being the foundation of program building...now seniors, current seniors like Lamarcus Joyner bought into that.

"For Brooks, Lamarcus Joyner, Telvin Smith, Kenny Shaw and Christian Jones, creating a new legacy at Florida State was part of what drew them to Tallahassee in the first place.

Joyner grew up in Miami, rooting for the Seminoles as a kid. Smith was a star in south Georgia, and he knew the history of the once-proud program. Jones’ dad and brother both played here, too, and he wanted to make his own mark.

When the class finally came together on Signing Day 2010, Fisher had compiled enough talent to begin the long climb back to relevance.

“Guys like me, Telvin, Lamarcus -- we used to talk in high school,” Jones said. “We’d talk about how we can help build that foundation. We grew up watching Florida State and knew how great the teams were in the past.

“If short hair and good manners won football games, Army and Navy would play for the national championship every year.”
