Signing Day

Not too far away, 2/5. Never really sure who will end up signing, smaller schools, like Boise, always live with top notch players that are finally rejected by larger more "prestigious" schools. Part of the process, in college football and life. The most interesting prospect I see for Boise is a young man, Koloton Donovan...can't be all that great...who has been ranked the number one long snapper for several years...talked about my scoffed at point that we rank everything. He has an impressive record and personally with special teams becoming more and more important to the game in terms of time on the field and scoring, makes sense to fill this key position, if that is all he does.

This is Ohio State's top commit to date. Ohio State really needs linebackers. His weakness seems to be what all our linebackers have problems with - shedding blockers. Hopefully he learns that skill. The Buckeye class this year fills needs. It is loaded with LB's and offensive linemen - positions that have big holes for Ohio State next year. Meyer also redshirted 19 players last year, which caused depth problems this year. Hopefully that pays off next season. All in all a pretty solid class. There are no huge names in this class, but the "big names" (Clarett, Pryor) have proved troublesome in the past. Ohio State seems to be building from the lines out, which I think is the best way to build a football team. I'm hoping for consistent growth this year.

Is Koloton Donovan related to you?

huh? FSU only gets the #3 ranked long snapper...

Local boy from our local high school.

He is a legacy...dad played for FSU.

Me too. I didn't think you gave scholarships to long snappers. I thought it was a positioned earned from a walk on.

Times seem to change. For a long time Field Goal kickers were seldom on scholarship. Don't think that is the case anymore. It is one of the few positions where effective play is fairly subjective, so you get three or you get the boot.

Many Long Snappers are walk ons...

FSU's Gabbard may be the 1st Long Snapper (that plays that position only) that will be on a scholly. He is the only one that I can remember.

And, at 215 pounds, he may be the smallest offensive lineman in the conference.

I'm not sure I would like a 215 pounder going against a mean nasty nose tackle.

This is a good year or FSU...

They have had to turn away 4 star kids who don't fit needs. Winning the NC brought out late interest from some top recruits...and FSU was in the position of already having commitments.

I don't know how I feel about this, but it seems that a couple of kids who committed real early and have issues (academic uncertainty) have been told that they ought to take their visits and look elsewhere.

Currently at 29 commitments with six early enrollee's, I expect FSU to take 4 more...the back up QB is transferring to Alabama opening a scholly and there is a good chance that a current player will get a medical DQ if the doctors say his career is done (he would stay on a scholarship but not be counted as a football scholarship).

It seems that is the climate now.
