First, how is everyone? Been awhile since my last post. Looking forward to the season, and I do hope everyone is well.

Second, Spence have you seen this story: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2014/07/24/ohio-state-band-waters.html

Being a member of and later a graduate student with the University of a Arkansas band I can say this stuff did not happen at the University of Arkansas. However, I bet ohio St is not the only school where it is happening.

It is a shame though. I have loved the Ohio State shows the past two years. However, strong leadership is needed to fix the broken behind the scene culture.

Yes I had heard of it. I know the drum major's family pretty well. The bad was doing some cool things. It is a shame to see the band director gone, but he is the leader so it all comes down on his head.

I'm sorry, i know we don't know the whole story...but this particular example is not abuse. We did stuff like this all the time in the Navy.

Examples of abuse include a yearly midnight band practice at Ohio Stadium in which all students were expected to march wearing only their underwear. After a student suffered alcohol poisoning at the practice in one recent year, staff members, including Waters, began attending the annual tradition.

They are young adults living in a fantasy reality of how real life works. I did things back then that I'm not so proud of also, but the guy in charge can't be a part of it. It is much the same thing that got Tressel fired. Stuff can happen as long as the kids are the only ones involved. When the person in charge appears to know about it and does nothing, then it's a problem. It's the world we live in.

This is from the band directors attorney. http://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/235114368d
