Nope! Nuh-uh! No way! No sir! Not #7!
Outside of those 3 gifts the Bruin defense received...they got smacked around! And when you consider how deflating it is to give up 3 defensive TD's and UCLA pulls out a 1 score victory...things just ain't all that sunshiny in Hollywood.

Dismal...I think....I have watched some really bad football today.....OSU Portland State....Although Mannion is good. Tons of penalties in the two games I watched.....and it looked like they were good calls.

It is a good thing that the week 1 sloppy play coincides with the oasis of football springing out of our long dry spell that is the off season.
I can shake my hand while still beaming on the inside!

I think UCLA will be fine, but it would be nice if Mora would wise up and use Myles Jack on offense. The guy is flat out amazing, probably one of the top two or three running backs in the entire country....But they decide to exclusively use him at LB. It's a bad call on his part. Besides the guy is such an athletic freak he could probably play all 60 minutes and not even wear down.
That, their bad offensive line play (which everybody has acknowledged as a problem), and the west-to-east-travel probably hurt them a lot today. Devin Fuller was completely absent too. There are a lot of instances where the Pac-12 team that goes in the eastern time zone with a 12:00 PM kickoff come out sloppy, I think that's what we saw today.

Playing at 9AM could throw things off and it is only game 1...but I was totally unimpressed. As for Mora and how he does things, good luck figuring that out.

Speaking of penalties, does it seem like there are not as many pass interference calls as there used to be??
I watched 2 separate games and the things defenders got away with was shocking IMO. Was there another rule change?

By the 3rd quarter of the WVU game, about 5 hours of football, my son and I were shaking our heads discussing this. "So let me get this straight, the NFL has made it a priority to call the PI's and the NCAA has seemed to do quite the oppsite!" By the time I drifted off to dream I developed my hypothesis. You can do a moderate bump and quick hand to the waist when a WR goes to his break, you can do the same when the defender initially comes into the wingspan area of the WR. More than that likely gets a flag. When the ball is in the air a defender can 1 arm a WR to death, even completely hold down one of his arms...so long as you are molesting the WR for 7 steps or less. The DB may only molest the WR for 3 steps if he uses both hands. If the WR has to drag step with ball in the air the DB may put both hands on him and defile him if it is for less than 1.5 seconds and/or the ball is on it's way down. If the WR turns back or is stopped the DB may duct tape his arms behind the WR's back and issue a ransom note.

You do need to worry when a team as sucky as UVA dominates you.

Never saw it so well explained. Thanks for the clarifications.

Myles Jack is a dirty player. When/if he gets to the NFL, he will make Suh look like a saint.
