6 Years / 49 Million?

"Inside sources" have leaked to the media that this is the offer Michigan will be throwing at Harbaugh. Harbaugh is cooked at San Francisco, so his options will be whichever NFL jobs open up or the Michigan job. If he takes that deal, he becomes the highest paid coach in football, college or pro. That's 8.1 million per season, one million more than what Saban makes.

I would be a happy camper and it's good to see that Michigan is at least serious about this. There's a lot of optimism now from people "in the know" who think that he will be coming to Michigan. Knowing our luck, even with Harbaugh, weird stuff will happen and it will all go wrong and we'll average 7.5 wins per season instead of becoming a powerhouse

I'm still going with Les Miles because Harbaugh-to-Michigan would mean something going right for Michigan, and that is just too much to ask for at this point. So I'll say Les Miles so I don't get my hopes up too much. Although I'd be ecstatic with Miles too.

FSU guys are hoping that it will be Harbaugh...

Jimbo has said before that the only program that interests him other than FSU is LSU....and, of course, LSU is where Jimbo coached under Saban.

I don't think Miles is going to go anywhere. I also think Harbaugh would have to be a little nuts not to take the offer. College coaching is easier than the NFL. You don't have to be at your best every week to win. If he doesn't take it, then he doesn't want to coach at the college ranks because that is as crazy as it is going to get in CFB.

Plus, it is the Big 10. I get the feeling that Meyer, aside from his Ohio roots also being a major factor, really wanted to take on the job at Ohio State because he felt it would be easier to get into the playoffs or (at the time) the BCS because he is such a ridiculously good coach and recruiter. His only real competition fighting for conference supremacy in the Big 10 with the natural advantages Ohio State has is (when everything breaks right) Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State. Add onto that that not more than three of these programs are elite at the same time, and it's a recipe for success. I think we saw how that worked out this year with Ohio State really only needing to win two major games in impressive fashion to get in the mix. I'm not saying Ohio State isn't better than teams like Auburn or Mississippi State from the SEC, which I think they are, I'm only saying it's easier to get a leg up on the rest of your competition because it's just not as deep. Compared to the SEC, if you have a young team or QB growing pains, you are going to fall like a rock into the middle of the conference, like a team like LSU did this year.

If Harbaugh could bring a national recruiting flavor to Michigan like we really used to have while finding some of the best guys from the Great Lakes region, it would drain Michigan State's pool of players and put us in a great position to compete against Ohio State. Winning big at Michigan really shouldn't take much, you just need a serious coach and the rest should take care of itself. Michigan has a big image problem now with the lack of success over the last seven years, so it will take an elite coach to get the program back on its feet. I'm hoping Harbaugh does the smart thing, although I feel Harbaugh doesn't really have a big attachment to the program itself. People assume you must love your alma mater, but Harbaugh never gushes about the program unlike Les Miles. Harbaugh will view this as a job more than anything. Which I won't mind! He's an awesome coach.

Welll...I was prescient.

FSU announced today that they are giving Jimbo a raise that will put him into the top five of college coaches and will extend him out to eight years....the amount has not yet been released since the contracting/negotiations has just begun.

But they loudly announced their intent....I think Les Miles to Ohio State struck a nerve.

Most colleges dislike recruiting. That is what they do in the college ranks. Harbaugh will be traded and no college, I wouldn't think would buy out his contract.
It's always about the money.
