Texas bowl ticket sales make up 17% of all bowl tickets sold. Only the two playoff games have sold more tickets.

I have my tickets and looking forward to the game!

Have a great time. So here is almost an unbelievable situation...someone explain this to me. From the Idaho Statesman

"Boise State has sold 9,300 tickets to the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31 against Arizona, the school reported Monday.

That’s an increase of just 600 tickets since the school’s first ticket update on Wednesday.

The remaining tickets cost $162.

To try to generate more sales, Boise State is offering a military-donation option. Fans can buy tickets here and they will be distributed to folks at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Boise State used a military-donation program for the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, too.

Boise State has a 12,500-ticket allotment valued at $1.94 million. The tickets count as part of the school’s payout, which is about $3.25 million in total.

The remaining tickets are worth $480,000. So if none are sold, the Broncos’ payout drops to about $2.75 million. That’s still enough to clear about $1 million from the trip.

Tickets still can be purchased through the Boise State Athletic Ticket Office (426-4737) and boisestatetickets.com.

Part of the problem for Boise State is the Fiesta Bowl is undercutting the school on tickets. Today, you could buy tickets in section 403 for $75 (plus fees) from the Fiesta Bowl and tickets in section 404 for $150 (plus fees) from Boise State.

The Fiesta Bowl, under its contract with the College Football Playoff, was required to provide most of the schools’ tickets at $150 or less. The result: Boise State is selling tickets in many sections for less than bowl organizers, but in some sections for twice as much.

So schools have to sell their tickets and the main competition is the Bowl.....Stop the insanity......

Donovan...that has been my yearly gripe...

The schools get stuck with high prices for poor seat locations while Stub Hub offers a better deal. Better seats for the money, Fans buy from Stub Hub and the school eats tickets.

I thought the Peach Bowl was the biggest seller this year. I know they have supposedly sold it out.

But speaking of attendence....I'm watching the Air Force game at Boise's stadium and it is EMPTY.

I MEAN EMPTY. In the stands, there are not 500-750 people. I can also go get a ticket to the Orange Bowl (used to be BCS) for $5.25. What????

I see the bowl system collapsing before our eyes.

The bowls are going to go away. It is a shame there aren't more people at the game. It is was pouring down rain - which doesn't help. Air Force played well though. I like to see the service academies win.

Minor bowls...and to some extent major bowls only work when there is a geographical representation.

Big ten schools have to travel no matter what. It costs a lot to go to a bowl game.

That is one reason the Texas Bowl is sold out. The game is in Texas and the Longhorns are in the game. The largest concentration of Razorback fans outside of Arkansas live in Texas. Arkansas fans travel well no matter where the bowl is. This game, for Hog fans anyway, is a renewing of an old SWC rival.

I'm already hearing ESPN guys remarking on how few people are at the games. That is the first stone cast to eliminate the non playoff bowls.

Bowls are now made for TV productions...

Sponsorships are sold...advertisements are sold...millions watch.

The concept of a bowl as a chance for a city to bring in tens of thousands for their local merchants still does exist...for a handful of bowls of the 38 now playing.

That is the point, though, if the venues can't afford the teams, they will go away.

Just like the fans do not go to the stadium because they do not want to see the game scheduled, TV viewers will look elsewhere when the event is obviously contrived and staged. It happens quickly.
