We have a decent game going on in Carolina. Currently all tied up at 10 points. 5 minutes to the half

The game in Florida, looks like UCF is starting to get their rhythm going, whereas FIU is predictably struggling. about 3 minutes to the half

Well, that was exciting on both fronts.

Bad play calling may have been the nail in the coffin of North Carolina. 3rd & goal from the 3, your line is blocking well for the run, and you go pass, and get sacked. Then you follow that up with a 4th & goal pass from the 9, which gets intercepted in the end zone. South Carolina wins 17-13.

And, UCF flopped in the second half. They were up 14-3 going into the half, and FIU comes back putting 12 points up to take a 15-14 lead. It came down to a final drive wit UCF playing drain the clock to set up a game winning field goal --- that was blocked, FIU wins, 15-14.

I never did get around to filling out any bowl projections, but I liked FIU as a C-USA sleeper this year. They have a good defense and the opposing defenses will get a lot mushier once they enter C-USA play. That was a really big win tonight over UCF, especially considering they were an in-state rival.

I thought Marquise Williams was absolutely horrendous tonight. He was erratic and completely all over the place, no way UNC should have lost that game. North Carolina will probably be a middling ACC bowl team, but I don't see South Carolina being good enough to get six wins with that schedule. I don't know who played worse, him or Shane Morris.

I'd say for the Michigan game, there were actually some positives. That wasn't an easy environment and I can already see the team getting a lot more physical, at least compared to last year. Granted, they aren't where they need to be, but that looked a little bit better at any rate. Utah is a top 25 team to boot and Michigan clearly belonged on the same field. The only difference between the two teams was competent QB play, but that's what we get by using a guy who transferred because he couldn't beat out C.J. Beathard at Iowa. I mean seriously, this is the best we can do? I've been completely anti-Rudock this whole time and all of my suspicions were confirmed today. The guy is flat-out terrible. I don't want to say I know more than Jim Harbaugh, but I've been of the opinion this whole time that Michigan should have just thrown Malzone to the wolves. He'd probably come out better for having gone through it. Either that or just let Morris play, considering he's the guy coming back next year. If your QB play is going to suck hard either way, I'd at least give the younger guy a chance to learn from it.

I was also stunned at the Western Kentucky / Vandy score. I didn't watch any of the game, but I have a hard time believing that the final score was 14-12. The over/under was at least 60 if I recall correctly. Totally amazing. I mean even if Western Kentucky's offense isn't truly great and it's a product of the terrible defenses they got to face last year, you'd at least think Vanderbilt would be able to run the ball down the throat of their terrible defense. How awful must Vandy's offense be? I was never a fan of their coaching hire from a couple of years ago. This isn't going to work out.

Central was game against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys need to work on a few things, but one thing that will suit them well in Big 12 play is the pass rush. TCU didn't look like world-beaters, but then again I had Minnesota as #25 in my poll, so I think fairly highly of the Gophers (take that with a grain of salt, I guess 8) ). I'm smelling an upset in Lubbock in a few weeks. You heard it here first. 8)

19,717 at Kelly/Shorts for a visit from an arguably Top 25 Power Five team is a little disappointing. The ones that were there were dialed in, however. Home dates with Kansas(2018) and Washington State(2019) are booked. Do credit the athletic department to be able to get any Power Fives to make it to Mount Pleasant at all. CMU put in a fine effort on the field last night; for such a transitional year it's encouraging.

The Wolverines looked rough around the edges, but improvement is inevitable because Harbaugh will address every fine point necessary, unlike Hoke. The crowd at Utah was highly motivated; had no idea they would be the factor that they were.

Minnesota would've had another TD had they not fumbled the ball into the end zone. Despite their loss, I'm just as sold on the Gophers as I was before. I am also as sold on TCU; that's still a good opener on the road against a Power Five for the Horned Frogs.

Western played a little better than I thought they would. Despite 2 INTs, Zach Terrell showed pinpoint accuracy on some important throws, two of which were dropped by his receivers. They still could win the MAC West, but they aren't there yet as far as Top 25 contention.

This was a much more inspired performance by State versus being at home against Jacksonville State last season. Despite a couple of first game hiccups, State played like a top ten team.
