Oregon v Michigan State

After reading ESPN about this game, I hope my least favorite team in the country, where is Fluiddude? Oregon, I hope Oregon just pummels them. This ESPN West Coast bias is getting to me. It was okay before they bought college football, now they promote the money teams.

It amazes me how easily the talking heads can be influenced. Ohio State was a crap until 2002, then great until 2006, then crap until last year. Now they are unbeatable..... Until they get beat. Oregon was on top of the football world until they got beat......in the national championship game and lost their QB to the pros. Now they are crap. Same with Florida State two years removed from being on top. Truth is none of these teams were as bad or are as good as people want to believe. The SEC, while down last year, are still the best conference. The Pacific 10 are second best. The B1G are fighting their way back as is the ACC. The B12 needs some help from Texas and Oklahoma, but they are starting to play defense and that is the road that will lead them back.
I'm getting tired of the whole conference cheerleading going on nationally. It is good to play a good schedule-- yes. Can you be good not playing one- yes. Florida State last year and Ohio State this year are examples of playing pitiful schedules. Sometimes that is how it shakes out. Maybe Ohio State's schedule will be better than we thought. Virginia Tech was a pretty good team with Brewer. They will struggle without him. Sometimes that is the difference between a good team and a poor team. Sometimes a third string QB can shock the world. Sometimes too much is being made even of that.

hmm, yes ...
The same is the difference with assumptions toward Wisconsin.
Yes, they can be contenders for their conference; however, they were heavy weight contenders when they had (a.) Stocko & (b.) Wilson.
Sometimes that 1 player is all the difference in the world.

How bad is Oregon's punter? I think I would just go for every 4th down.

I am too..
Bad pass there, shouldn't ever throw it into quadruple coverage.
Elsewhere; In Knoxville, the Sooners just tied the game, and it looks like overtime coming.

It looks like Michigan State is about to beat themselves. Poor clock management there. Oregon has 2:30 to score...

Dino comes out with the W. Good game by both teams. That should make the Nov. 21 matchup in Columbus a pretty awesome matchup. Great game.

Well,I posted it last night ... Oregon's defense isn't good enough to keep them in the game, if they run into a team who can put up solid numbers. That they would lose if they ran into a real defensive opponent, that can stop a couple of their drives. That is precisely who MSU is.
Michigan State got a bit conservative there at the end, playing more of a chess match & field position, rather than keeping the pressure high with scoring.
I would have played more for first downs, than waiting til 3rd down and putting myself in a situation where an incomplete pass would give the opposition hope.
It almost got away from the Spatans on that punt --- Oregon missed a gem of an opportunity shooting it into the end zone.
The Ducks really shot themselves in the foot their at the end, though. Trying too hard to go for the touchdown, without picking up field goal yardage first, on first and second down. Even the sack on 3rd down could have been prevented, had they tried for more yardage, rather than the whole tamale. The qb was waiting for his receivers to get open in the end zone, which took too much time, allowing the MSU D front to penetrate the protection.
I get wanting to finish the drive with a TD, and put your opponent away. But, just in case you don't make it there (the end zone), having the option to kick it into OT is a pressure reliever.
Sometimes greed gets the best of us all.

Speaking to Spence's point, there's a lot of variance week-to-week in college football. A lot of people around where I live were making a big deal of Michigan State's inability to completely shut down Western Michigan last week and how that doesn't bode well against Oregon. Despite what happened today against Georgia Southern, WMU isn't chopped liver, it was week 1, and crazy stuff happens every week. MSU was going to be fine and they were going to compete with Oregon regardless of what happened. I also think people are making too much out of Auburn's struggles against Jax State today (who is a top 5 FCS team). Auburn will be fine and they will score in SEC play and people will look back in November at that game and wonder how it ever happened (or if Auburn is in playoff competition, they will cite this game as evidence for how the SEC or Auburn are overrated). You guys can check this prediction later this year and make me eat crow if I'm wrong
Alabama didn't really annihilate Middle Tennessee today, but I guarantee you MTSU isn't as good as Wisconsin. Alabama beat them like they did Wisconsin. Sometimes stuff happens. You don't get the same teams every week. The media spends too much time analyzing the wrong things. I'm more worried about whether or not a team is talented enough or headstrong enough to give themselves a chance to win every week.
Plus, sometimes you have to watch the games to a large degree to get a good feel for how the teams actually played. You can pit the #1 team and the #2 team against each other and somebody has to win. But if they play poor games against each other, somebody still gets credit for a major W even though they may have played like crap and could have hypothetically lost against a lesser team. Two teams (like Boise and BYU today) can play very good games against each other and somebody has to lose. You have to look beyond the box score sometimes. Boise State still has a really good defense and they need to fix some errors coming from the QB position and they can be a top 15-20 caliber team. If that pass gets swatted away in the end zone, Boise is in the top 15 next week. They're still the same team.

Louisville lost their home opener yesterday, to Houston...
Auburn barely squeaked by Louisville last weak.
Auburn barely squeaked by Jax St yesterday.
It isn't one week we're looking at, it's a trend.
Auburn maybe fine down the line ... but they are out of sync right now.

It's Sunday and I haven't looked yet...are 15 SEC teams ranked this morning?
I guess Arkansas must have dropped...but somebody had to move up to fill that place...was it Vandy?

Oregon played a good game. They could have won it. Oregon should not drop big in the polls for this game. It was the best game with the best teams of the season. Both these teams can hang with anyone in the nation.
