What's wrong with this Picture?

Probably nothing. I thought this was a great visual as we on the West Coast, continually suffering from a Don Quixote complex wonder why we don't stand a change. If the adage of 'follow the money' is true in college football, then the map is even more self-evident than the declaration that all men are created equal. The fact that the Group of Five is absent does not go unnoticed. (Go back a few years when it was the PAC 8, when I might add, college football was fun on a local level.)

What do they need football for out there on the left coast? The California hipsters and Northwestern latte slurpers are much too cool for a proletarian sport like football. There is a negative correlation between the intake of Ahi Tuna and football watching.

And, it is 2000 miles to the nearest Kentucky bourbon distillery

For Gawd's sake, the capital of the region, Los Angeles, doesn't have a pro football team.

The truth is that things are very biased against the west coast....even the sun waits a few hours to shine there.

I thinking......we do that on the West Coast, you know. Not well, nor often, but sometimes....

The map as well as response was more sobering than I realized. It is clear when I look at the map why I was content with watching PAC 8 ball and the Skyline conference and local Division II schools. Rose Bowl time came and you matched up with the Big Ten and that was it. "Those were the days, my friend, I thought they'd never end..."

Now to the current era. Amidst a bunch of wide-eyed liberals there are a few throwbacks. Yes, most up hear now smoke weed, think soccer is god's game and bicycles should not share the road, but own them. Coffee is no longer spoken but mochas and lattes and large is Grande. We have sold our souls to ESPN* and Draft King and that other fantasy betting now control the games.

I still love the mountains...I know some of you may have to look Mountain up in the dictionary...the Pacific Coast and the streams and rivers.

It looks to me Washington to Miami is a long way to play a football game. Speaking of football....Do the Oregon teams suck or what? So depressed.

*There is a financial gain if Boise State is handed the ESPN2 slot. The Broncos will receive a $500,000 bonus, but will receive no bonus if the game is played on ESPNU.
Boise State vs. Wyoming on Oct. 24 at Albertsons Stadium is set for an 8:15 pm MT kickoff on ESPN2 or ESPNU!

There is a lot of good football played on the west coast. There just is much between the southwest and the west coast. Soccer is very popular in the Midwest as well. It is an athletic outlet for the smaller athletic kids. I don't understand it, but my daughters have played since they were very small.

I think the distribution makes sense. The big programs are where the populations are and there are just more people in the East.

I will say that the so-called Power 5 could use a program from Idaho though at some point

I love maps....

Let me find the one that displays collegiate hockey teams....the south seems to be desolate. A desert of hockey.

Wheat....where wheat grows, football is scarce...something there is about wheat. Corn nurtures football (and bourbon).

It's the indian's fault...the map of western football desolation is also a map of the territory of the fierce plains tribes, Comanche, Crow, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Lakota, Sioux...the last to surrender in the 200 year war with european intruders. It was an area that you took an armed convoy through on the way to the Promised Land....the Gaza of the west.

The northern west is the western version of football New England...Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire....great place for summer tourism, picturesque, but a football vaxuum.

Researchers (no kidding) tracked the food with the most twitter headings by state....it is sooooo obvious that grits and football have some ethereal relationship.

Now we are talking. Reportedly the last Indian war, reported by considerable yellow journalism, not unlike CFP message board on Sunday mornings, especially now we know Mr. Congrove chooses when there are hundreds of games in this great lands to attend games on the East Coast ending up the burg Tallahassee (I suspect is was a ruse to follow the whiskey distillery tour) but I do digress.

Oh yes, the last war was reported to be in Southern Utah in 1923. The main character was Chief Posey. I also suspect this picture shows him at a Ute football game and that now this has come to light, there will be a lawsuit against that team in Florida for Mascot infringement, Posey v. Osceloa. Though dying of a gunshot wound, the way Posey died, is not as ignominious as an Osceola's death, I guess gumbo spice is worth paying the extreme price.

The only bigger waste of corn is ethanol gasoline. (My mother thought hominy was a required vegetable.)

I agree, but I must say that the corn whiskey mountain man sent me a few years back was very good. So I am for that sort of alcohol derived from corn.

Hominy? Hominy is to grits as corn is to Crackerjacks.

Related...sort of third cousins. But do not try to feed me hominy when I order my grits.

But seriously...the real map is the population density map....it illustrates the vast unpopulated spaces that don't have a P5 team.

Great map...now if we could only trade California for...for.....Maine. ... That works

I like the low density. Winter at the Coast is really good....fewer people yet.
