Steve Spurrier will leave with his record of non losing seasons as a coach intact.....since this season won't be entirely his.
I guess it stopped being fun for Stevil.....Hate to see him go...one less guy to cheer against.

Spurrier never won a game in Tallahassee but made a fierce rivalry even better. I loved his lip twisting, grimaces, and visor throwing.
The man was not politically correct, could not be managed, was witty, and had a plethora of other qualities that I liked...He was also known to be a jerk.
I'll miss cheering against him in every game that he coached.

I never really had a dog in the fight when Spurrier was coaching, so I am not sure why I always wanted his teams to lose. Maybe Mr. Billybud is my influence. Not a bad thing.
So on the positive, he seems one a very few people that has been deeply involved in athletics, done well and never seemingly crossed any ethical lines. If that is the case, time for me to talk about the positive; we need more in that category.

I think it is a rinky dink move to leave during the season.

Yes it is. But did you see him. I think he is sick.

Yeah I don't want to speculate about health, but that could be a factor. I heard someone close to the situation through the media that he was "burned out." So it could just be a physical thing and not anything resembling an illness. That, or he felt he lost the team or something. I kind of buy his rationale about stepping out of the way and giving someone on the coaching staff a chance to develop bonds with the players there and to get a crack at keeping the coaching job if they find success with it, but I also agree that (assuming it wasn't health-related) it's essentially quitting on your team when the going gets tough. Not really the message you want to send to your players. I always felt badly about the way June Jones left SMU in the ditch also. I'm sure the players didn't appreciate getting recruited there only to have the coach bail on them when it became apparent that they were going to field a terrible team.

If he is sick, then I understand. Beyond that, I do not.
