NCAA changes recovery rules after ARK vs AUBURN

Postby Dossenator » Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:52 pm

Well, the NCAA, per a local Arkansas sports journalist says that effective this week the rule for immediate recovery of the football has been changed. Replay can now consider any recovery. So yet another Arkansas game that leads to NCAA rule changes. I could list many from the change of pass interference from a spot foul to 15 yard penalty that stems from Ark vs SMU game in 1983. Or how the AP awarded national champions before bowl games pre 1965 (Ark only undefeated team in 1964 did not get the AP national championship. It was awarded to Bama. Bama loses their bowl game that year. Ark was the only undefeated team in 1964). The next year the AP decided to wait until after the bowl games. Ark was undefeated again in 1965 and ranked #1 leading into the bowl games. Ark lost their bowl game. So instead of receiving 1 AP national championship they received ZERO due to rule changes. Or travesties like the Ark vs Florida game in 2009. There were I believe 6 bogus or bad calls in that game. The SEC suspended the officiating crew for 2 weeks after the game and apologized to Arkansas. Ark lead in that game deep into the 4th and a string of terrible calls kept Florida drives alive and lead to the go ahead scores. Calls such as unnecessary roughness on a player that did not even touch the Florida player that was supposedly roughed.

I guess Arkansas fans should just expect these things to happen by now.

You gotta hand it to those NCAA guys....... they know a WTF moment after it happens!!! This bunch has the foresight of a Barn Loft Bat.

This doesn't surprise me much. I hate what I often see as homerism in games where the ref will look over at the downs marker and change where he was going to place the ball giving he home team, the top rated team a first down, etc. The new review off site by ACC officials is often erratic. Still, watching 20 or 30 replays (reg. or slo-mo) often does not seem to indicate things clearer to me much of the time. I am surprised that the top 5 have not opted out of the NCAA for football.]
