Well this SUCKS!!!!!!

Postby Mountainman » Wed Nov 25, 2020 11:34 pm

Sooooooo, the West Virginia and Oklahoma game scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed until December 12th due to the COVID-19 Virus....... in addition, I learned today that families are not allowed to gather in the same house for Thanksgiving in groups of more than 8 people. That’s a real disappointment since our crew normally gathers in a group of 15 to 18 or so depending on who cannot made the trip for whatever reason.

I also heard today that for a funeral a group of 25 is allowed........ so, I called everyone and encouraged them to come on to Thanksgiving Dinner anyway, because if the Cops come to break-up the gathering I’m going to tell them that it’s a funeral....... for the TURKEY!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all........ :D :D :D

I felt the same way over the Colorado State -v- Air Force game ...

Well, at least Texas / Iowa State isn't having any of it. This is the way to kickoff Black Friday Football.

However; watching this game, if the Cyclones continue trading Field Goals to Longhorns TD's, it could to into, Black Friday Curtains sale, for Cy. [curtains on their Conference Title bid]

It's getting late in the game. Just about 8 minutes left, and Texas is about to Bevo it into the end zone, again.

That was a gutsy call ...

Not sure the refs placed the ball in the correct spot.

Still, measured, and turn over on downs.

This might save Iowa St, but they can't seem to move the ball in the red zone. Their pass protection around the 15 is atrocious. So, they may need to make a deep shot around the 30 if they want a Touchdown.

P.S. Nobody wants the football play out of New Mexico, but maybe everyone should adopt the Lobos Covid protocols ...

They have had zero positive tests since their football program opened operations for this season. That is, not a single case, on player roster nor on staff.

Smart of them to abandon passing the ball, and go with the run game there ...

Now the choice to go for it on 4th & 1, rather than kicking the FG, looks really bad for Herman.

If they'd had kicked it, and Iowa St still scored that TD [Iowa St would have been further back to start their drive, and not had that spark of momentum], this game would be tied right now, and Texas could be going down to score a game winning FG.

Now, it's 2cnd & 20, with 1:07 left in the game, and the Longhorns are behind the 8 ball with the table full of Stripes to sink.

And that is why you do not make the foolhardy decisions that put your team on its heels with so much time left ...

It's coaching calls such as that, which may see Herman on someone else's staff in a coordinator's position next year.

But!

Thanx to Tommy Boys poor offensive strategy at the end of the game; Today, I'm starting the Weekly Picks with a +1 ...

I lost the pick, but really happy for the Cyclones....... the BigXII has been a little too top heavy. 8) 8)

Yeah; and now I'm thinking I should have used Central Michigan -v- Eastern Michigan as an option for a replacement game ...

I thought this one was likely a blowout in the making. Sure, the rivalry has potential to make things interesting. But I didn't believe that would apply, here.

Boy was I wrong.

This game would have been an excellent alternate for the Apple Cup being Cancelled.

The other problem, though; This being a Friday game, as an alternate, would have put us down one extra had it been cancelled, itself. I would have been pressed for another game to line up for the week.

If anyone is watch it; 2 turnovers deep on Eastern's side of field, on back to back possessions allowed Central to take a 1 point lead here at the end, then attempt to hold out for the win.

I knew It ..!

Bah!!

I was going to take Oregon State, too.

There it is, though. The Beavers are really improved. No question.

With a poorly spotted ball, that would have given them a first down vs Washington, they'd have been able to run out the clock, and their record would be 3-1, instead of 2-2.

Looks as though the Pac is sunk. Without USC being able to make up their cancelled game against Utah [Trojans had to drop the game; while the Utes made it up by scavenging together a game with Washington], I do not think they'll have enough of a schedule to get selected. Especially where they're currently ranked by the committee.

So, we're back to a 2cnd team from another conference.

Ohio State just dropped their second of the year, leaving them with just one game leeway for the Big Ten Championship.

Of course, if OSU is not available to play for a Conference title, Northwestern would have a clean shot at going undefeated, with a showdown vs the Hoosiers in the B1G CCG. [however, that's no gimme after watching Indiana play against the Bucks]

Ohio State is done for 2 weeks now. Which makes them done for post season.

If the rules you agreed upon prohibit you expectations ...

Change the rules to prescribe the outcome you prefer.

It’s the season of rule changes, it has been topsy-turby before the season began and will continue throughout the “regular” season....... BUT, when the post-season rolls around, they’ll be one rule that does not change. And that will be that a group, The College Football Playoff Committee, will convene and subjectively select ‘The Four Best Teams’ to play for the title....... regardless of ANY what’s, why’s, circumstance or regular season records that have occurred this season. 8)

The Wonderful World of Disney will make it happen.......
