There is a difference between conspiracy theories, and conspiracy actualities.

But pretending that some conspiracies simply do not exist, because others are so obviously ridiculous is the quintessential maintenance of sweeping the dirt under the rug, and pretending it was never there in the first place.

Cane....

Some folks' "obviously ridiculous" conspiracies are real to them....and I posit that this ESPN is an evil Borg plotting to take over has folks making up stuff to suit their theory...now some bend facts and make statements to support their cospiracy theory...such as ESPN pushing the NIL.

ESPN did not push the NIL issue...the athletes did (Shawn Alston, et al)...there was a growing groundswell of athletes wanting some remuneration as their coaches reaped millions in a billion dollar industry...and the Supreme Court ruled the NCAA indeed was in violation of restraint of trade...

The man says he has ‘proof’ in the form of a letter……. 8) 8) 8)

I coulndn't find a reference tthat identified his "proof" in that link...A letter? Of course ESPN scoffed at his desist letter and said they have done nothing to desist from....and the AAC responded that they have not reached out to any BIg 12 programs.

“The accusations you have made are entirely without merit,” ESPN president Burke Magnus' letter to Bowlsby said. “Apart from a single vague allegation that ESPN has been ‘actively engaged in discussions with at least one other’ unnamed conference, which ESPN disputes, your letter consists entirely of unsubstantiated speculation and legal conclusions."

Aresco, AAC Commissioner, responds as well....“Our conference has never strategically aligned or plotted with ESPN to influence conference structures. We do consult with our television and business partners, but any suggestions or statements that we colluded with ESPN with regard to the structure of any other conference is a completely unfounded and grossly irresponsible accusation.”

Amazing how one can point to an accuser, and not those who pursued the content of that issue, that benefits themselves.

Yes, the NIL all started with Shawn Alston.

To say espn did not champion this as their mantra is turning a deaf ear to literally everything they have been saying, on air.

Attempting to paint the theory as agenda driven, is lazy. Because what you do, is enable the conspiracy that you pretend doesn't exist.

The media never uses "Analysts" in the form of the hypothetical, unless the "News" is unexpected.

When you already know the headlines, because you helped to tread the path, then the reason is always self serving.

Maybe, you're anti-theory is just as much propaganda as anything else. The rhetoric is there.

Everybody loves a theory....aliens created the Nazca lines, etc.

And people will perceive that which supports their theory...it's human nature. A'la Rohrshack...I see dancers, you see a devil

Did China conspire to take over world manufacturing, or did business, following the tenets of capititalism, offshore production to maximize profits....

‘Theory’ has become one of the redefined words. There are more correct words like, conjecture, hypothesis, crap, bold faced lie, and S.W.A.G. (Scientific Wild *** Guess) that are far better suited for what some are putting out there nowadays.

I can say with certainty that there are fans, the ones I associate with, who are at a tipping point of becoming casual college football fans. Meaning that the days of going to games in person is being questioned. Hell, the conversations have changed from actual football to all these other things such as an absolutely incompetent NCAA, conference realignment, CFP, lawsuits, exorbitant coaching salaries and ESPN, to name a few. The entire narrative has changed, and it’s not about THE FREAKIN GAMES anymore.

I ran across this article from a ‘local’ website that I peruse on occasion and shared it with the Mountaineer Crew I run with……. and everyone of them felt the same way.

I will say that his assessment of West Virginia not moving the needle, in terms of potential Conference additions, I question:

West Virginia is a R1 Research Campus, the highest level of research activity in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Speaking of research:

Navigate Research ranks WVU as the nations 7th most valuable program in terms of brand equity.

The Mountaineers won 4 BCS bowl games

WVU is one of only 15 Power5 schools to make 16 bowl trips in the last 18 years.

WVU is #2 in the Big 12 for NFL draft picks since 2010.

WVU's home record has been in the top 25 each year for the past 17 seasons.

WVU's paid attendance is higher than the vast majority of ACC programs. WVU has had only 2 losing seasons in the past 20 years.

The Mountaineers are one of the few truly self-supporting athletic programs in CFB.

Other than Virginia Tech, the Mountaineers have won more games than Miami, Boston College, Pitt and Syracuse since these programs left the Big East. Since 2005, the Mountaineers have won over 130 games, more than anyone except Virginia Tech in that time frame.

WVU leads VT in 28-23 in wins. WVU has won 16 out of the last 24 games with Pitt. The Mountaineers hold a 10-3 edge over Louisville and a 21-11 edge over BC.

WVU was consistently 3rd or 4th in Big XII TV ratings. Those ratings would place WVU in the top 10% of ACC programs.

Not bad for a bunch of Hillbillies…….

………..and in the spirit of the moment, WVU Grads just picked-up two more Olympic Gold Metals, that makes 9 over the years. I believe it was Jerry West that won the first one.

Let’s Gooooooooo Mountaineers!!!!!
