The State of Florida Football ...

Postby Cane from the Bend » Mon Nov 08, 2021 9:55 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------

UCF (6-3)
FAU (5-4)
Miami (5-4)
UF (4-5)
fsu (3-6)
USF (2-7)
FIU (1-8)

UCF has the best record in the state. However, they barely eked out a 4 point win versus (1-8) Tulane.

Going into week 11; UCF is the only team in the State that is Bowl Eligible. Had Tulane pulled off the win against them, the Knights wouldn't be.

That is the kind of season this has been.

I for one am overjoyed that the Gators are not even bowl eligible. 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

The way things are playing out, either fsu will not be eligible for a bowl before the uf game, or it could become an elimination game for the two of them.

That I am definitely okay with

I had not noticed it was that bad. Crazy. With the level of talent the state of Florida produces every year it is hard to believe. Are more and more kids leaving Florida for other programs, are they being spread more across Florida colleges (I would think in the past that FSU, Miami, and UofFlor took in most of the top talent), etc. Why do you think this is happening?
"A team with something to play for is dangerous, but a team with someone to play for is unstoppable..." Arkansas OL Brey Cook quote following the death of teammate Garrett Uekman (Nov. 2011).

Recruiting is part of it ...

florida has recruited well, at times, only to turn around and have players transfer out.

fsu has had some recruiting wins this past cycle. They may be trending up. Still they aren't recruiting at the top percentage of State recruits.

Miami has gotten better the last couple of season, at keeping guys home. But, it took 7 games to get the younger guys in. Competition on the roster is hurting, because Diaz has more often than not, played the veteran guys over better younger players. We're just now starting to see the productivity we can have, by utilizing the young talent. Miami is now starting true freshmen over Jr's & Sr's.

The rest I believe is largely due to poor leadership.

Development seems to be on a downtrend in gainesville. The team also looks like they've all but quit on the coaching staff. Had Samford beaten the gators today. I do not think Mullen would have been employed tomorrow.

fsu is seemingly playing better. Their improvement could very well be signs of development progress. My guess, are the guys who've been toxic in the locker room, are being bench, while the younger players are buying in.

Miami has yet to show that there is positive development. Any success the `Canes have had, is by ready made, plug & play kids, who are just better than the guy lined up in front of them.

The other four teams just can't get the depth at position to keep them competitive, long term.

That, has a bunch to do with out of state programs coming in, scarfing up all of the talent.

One of Baylor's start receivers, for instance, is right out of Miami. His performance today, helped to beat Oklahoma. The commentary people were even talking about how he mentioned that his teammates and himself have often debated which state has the best high school football. Florida or Texas.

Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Auburn, LSU and lately Oregon, have been picking the state clean of the top talent. So getting a fuller roster of skill players becomes more difficult, as everyone else starts competing for the 3 star guys.

So, Mullen is out at florida ...

And that is only the tip of overturn.

Gary Patterson is out as TCU Head Coach

Sonny Dykes, leaves SMU to take the TCU job.

Rhett Lashlee [Miami Offensive Coordinator] has accepted the Head Coaching position, at SMU.

Who else in the FBS is spinning the wheel?

Akron -- fired HC Tom Arth -- [open]

UConn -- fires Randy Edsall -- hires Jim Mora

FIU -- Butch Davis says he's not going to return after his contract expires, which ends on Dec. 15

Georgia Southern -- fires Chad Lunsford --- hires Clay Helton

USC -- fired Clay Helton -- [open]

LSU -- fired Ed Ogeron -- [open]

Louisiana Tech -- fired Skip Holtz -- [open]

UMass --- fires Walt Bell -- hires Don Brown (Arizona DC)

Texas Tech -- fires Matt Wells --hires Joey McGuire (Baylor OLB coach)

Troy -- fired Chip Lindsey -- [open]

Virginia Tech -- fired Justin Fuente -- [open]

Washington -- fired Jimmy Lake -- [open]

Washington -- fired Nick Rolovich -- [open]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some names of note, who've been speculated as potential hires to other programs:

Jonathan Smith -- Oregon State signed Smith to an extension through 2028; the new deal includes assistant salary increases

Jeff Traylor -- UTSA give Traylor with an extension through 2031, with an average annual salary of $2.8 million

Hugh Freeze -- Liberty has given Freeze an extended contract, up through 2028, worth upwards of $4+ million per year

Mike Gundy -- Oklahoma State extended Gundy's contract, though no pay bump

P.J. Fleck -- Minnesota went into a seven-year extension with Fleck, whose new deal is worth $5 million a year

James Franklin -- Penn State agrees to a 10 year contract extension with Franklin worth $75 million

Dave Clawson -- Wake Forest signed what is being labeled as "a long-term contract extension", no other details given

That is a big contract for Franklin, who really hasn't done anything at Penn State. You take away the 12th man at their home games and he is a very, very average coach.

Someone sure had a trick knee there, in State College, Pennsylvania ...

All of that LSU/USC chatter played in Franklin's favor. The initially buyout is $12 million, for someone to come in and poach him away from Penn State.

Then, if Penn St decides to part ways with Franklin, buying out his remaining time themselves = the Current Year (Base + Supplemental + Loan) {$ 8million}
[times] number of remaining contract years.

Which starts at $80 million, after the current post season.
