Northern Illinois was predicted to finish last in the MAC 2021.
The Huskies did not win a single game in 2020.
Tonight, after an Overtime win vs Buffalo, NIU is now 8-3 on the season, 6-1 in the MAC and have sealed their spot as MAC West Divisional Champions, to compete in the Conference Title game.
On the flip side, Buffalo, who went 5-1 in the regular season of 2020, having a game vs the Ohio Bobcats being cancelled due to Covid. They finished with a record of 6-1 after a Camella Bowl victory over Marshall.
The Buffs were expected to compete for the MAC Championship 2021, with many predicting they would dawn the crown.
UB was 4-6 going into this game, needed to win this and their final season appearance in order to become bowl eligible.
The loss tonight, give them one last outing to complete their year, against Ball State, who after also losing tonight, are currently 5-6, making that game for eligibility's sake; or Buffalo plays the spoiler.
