Exactly right... Sure Syracuse clobbered Colgate, but if West Virginia brought the game that they played the other night to Richmond or James Madison, they would have just embarrassed themselves.

Colgate put up some offensive yardage though.
Of course I didn't see the game, so I don't know how that developed. The Big East just looks really bad on paper right now. They don't really even have a win to hang their hat on. The best win the league has so far is probably West Virginia over Maryland. I'm not going to knock West Virginia for losing in Death Valley, but that's the best in an 8-team conference? Ouch.
And I don't want to be too harsh on the Big East because I think they have gotten some undeservedly poor press in the last three seasons. But this year I think the downers are right: The MWC is probably better this season.

Yeah. If the best win of the season for the Big East is West Virginia over Maryland, then the second best is Pitt's narrow loss to Utah...

I don't know;

Cinci's narrow loss to Oklahoma was pretty good
Though, I am assuming that the Sooners are a really dominant Home team... elsewhere , however

The Big Easy is so bad...everyone hires all of their coaches. No conference has been raided like the Big East has in the last 3 or 4 years. They should take a vote from all of the FBS schools about replacing them with another conference or just simply toss them...and those who vote to do so can sign a contract to never hire one of the coaches from that scrubby conference.
So the Big Easy is down...what does that make Oklahoma? Who got 7 points from a terrible call that guaranteed them 7 points against Cincy...getting the ball 4 yards from the end-zone...priceless! Yeah WVU lost. Funny, I didn't see all of that SEC speed on the field in southern France the other night, the field of sponge. I did see a team without it's best O-lineman out and its 2 most potent players get injured. But hey, LSU won by such a wide margin, no wonder they moved up in the polls. I am sure nobody who thinks the Big Easy is lousy moved LSU up though. Way too much football knowledge here to do that.

If Cincy is good, than NC State is top 5 material.
I like these transitive things. LOL

Oklahoma has struggled against Air Force and Cincy. That does say some things. Either one or more of those teams are pretty good or Oklahoma isn't as good as people have thought. One game doesn't say much, just like having a close game with a co-conference member doesn't say much - because you play them every year - but this isn't two teams from different conferences. They don't see your film very often, they don't know your teams tendencies as well and they don't have a "feel" how your coach will call the game.
Seems to me that Oklahoma has some problems this year, that they need to work through. At least to this point in the season.

Boise struggled against VT...VT lost to James Madison.
So Cal struggled against Virginia...I think that teams can only peak for so many games a year. It is sometimes hard to stay focused and motivated with a weaker opponent, especially if you are essentially their bowl game and they are motivated.
I want to see if Saban can keep his boys focused as they wade through a schedule of tough teams (Arkansas, Florida, Penn State, Auburn) interspersed with a few guys who could sneak up on you (Ole Miss, LSU, Misssissippi State...and even Tennessee)

Yeah and if VT continues to struggle, that should be considered. Southern Cal isn't very good this year, struggling with Virginia is about right. Yes, a team like Airforce is going to approach Oklahoma like a bowl game and so is Cincinnati, but you have to know that if you are Oklahoma. Oklahoma would be a name if they were awful this year and they would still be a notch in someones belt.
Unranked Florida State beat Ohio State in 1982. I guess Ohio State played down to their competition. Or maybe, a team that hadn't ever had a winning history nationally was getting ready to start a dynasty. Maybe Ohio State played well and still got beat. MAybe FLorida State was a better team even though, at the time, they weren't perceived as a power nationally. No...no....that could not be the case because perception is always reality and the vegas line had Ohio State being the better team and also playing a much stronger conference schedule at the time.

Heck Spence, I don't know what FSU has to do with the conversation, but....FSU beat Ohio State every time that they played them because Ohio State wasn't as fast. Same problems that Michigan and Michigan State had with them.
1982 wasn't an isolated incident.
It is no coincidence that OSU has lost nine straight to the SEC....unless you think that they were sneaking up on the Buckeyes.

Are you implying that FSU should have played for the National Title because they beat the Buckeyes at Columbus? I wish.
The problem was that FSU did play other teams ranked in the final top of the AP....lost a game to Dan Marino and Pittsburgh who finished #2

You never seem to address the issue....
The issue isn't of being "good" or not. The issue is one of playing a championship season by beating good teams and having a better season then the other teams...being "good" I define as demonstrating that your season was a national championship caliber season.
That makes you the champion.
When FSU finally won their NC in 1993...they played teams that FINISHED in the AP.....#2, #3, #5, #15, #19, and #23
If Boise does that...I say give them the crystal football.
If Boise has but one win over a final ranked team...I say that they haven't had a championship season.
