I also read that today. Boise State could get to that level shortly. Especially with all of the national exposure and high ranking, I think they could be recruiting like a Pac-10 school this winter. If you think about it, they're doing this with mostly 3-star recruits and they churn them out of this machine.

The key here is everyone has to start somewhere. I was looking at Florida State's history and early on in Bobby Bowden's history his policy wasn't anywhere anytime - that happened some years after he started getting some pretty good teams. Nothing wrong with that, but it seems back then, no one was too willing to except they were much good either. Then they started winning against some better teams and people started to notice them. Sounds familiar.

The difference is that FSU and Miami blew on the scene playing pretty decent schedules....folks forget that. Before FSU played these schedules, they got no attention. It was the "Road Warrior" years that shot FSU up.

In its breakout year of 1979, FSU made waves by going 12-0 and to the Orange Bowl (first major bowl). But FSU in 1979 did beat teams like Florida, South Carolina, LSU, VT, and Miami. In 1980, FSU beat 10 win Miami, 11 win Pitt (only loss FSU), 10 win Nebraska, along with LSU, Florida, VT.

In 1981 FSU did beat Ohio State, LSU and Notre Dame on the road...1982- played Ohio State, Miami, LSU, South Carolina on the road. 1983 played Auburn, Pitt, Arizona State, Florida, and LSU on the road...plus Miami and South Carolina at home.

When did Florida St change from an all girls school to co-educational? My oldest brother played baseball for Florida St in 1950 and 1951. He led the team in hitting in the 51 season. Unfortunately, he never talked much about his accomplishments and he passed away over 10 years ago. I was never aware of many of his accomplishments.

I saw where the baseball program at FSU started in 1948, so that would seem about right. I googled and 1947 is the correct date.

The pre 1954 FSU football teams played a non standard schedule...some service teams, etc.

In 1954, FSU played Auburn, Georgia, North Carolina State, UTEP, Stetson, Abilene Christian, Southern Miss, Furman, Tampa, VMI, Villanova, and Louisville.
