Upset of the Week?

Whats your pick for upset of the week. We have some close ones this weekend.

Florida Vs. Alabama

Texas Vs. Oklahoma

Stanford Vs. Oregon

or maybe there is another game your keeping your eyes on.

I've no shame I'm going for VT over NC St.

I think we'll find out what Florida is really made of this weekend. I honestly don't know where I stand on them. The only time I've watched them extensively was their opening fumble laden performance.

After last week I'm not giving Texas much hope against Oklahoma, but Oklahoma has had a few down games so who knows.

Is this Stanfords year? I think Stanford is good but this Ducks team reminds of the Dennis Dixon team that was on it's way to a NC appearance when he went down. I haven't seen enough of either to be an expert but thats my take.

I've seen USC looking ugly this season, any chance Washington pulls something out?

Clemson hosting Miami - don't know if this would be considered an upset by everybody, though it technically is as Clemson is a 3 point 'dog.

Virgina Tech, meanwhile is actually favored by 3.5 at NC State, so it really depends on how one defines "upset," whether by record, ranking, or betting line.

If I had to pick one..it would be Texas against the Sooners.

Washington has been consistant..they have scored 17-21 points, no matter who they played. Except for their 17-14 win over Virginia, USC has put up more than 21...I go with USC.

Oklahoma is only a 3 point favorite, so in my mind no upset to be had.

What about Penn St as a 7 point underdog.

I know there are no rules concerning a game to be an upset, but I feel unless there is at least a 6 or 7 point spread, the game cannot be considered an upset.
Now if New Mexico St wins, being a 41 point underdog, that would be a true upset or Alcorn State as a 41 1/2 pt underdog against Miss St.

I'll take Florida over Bama. Considering I am about 0% on my going out on the limb predictions, consider Bama a lock! LOL @ myself.

I'm hoping Ohio State-Illinois isn't an upset game. I see six potential upsets tomorrow.

Not to rub or nothing...but I got a feeling about this game. I thought to myself I might be crazy, but then Dr. Lou brought up some history. I thought The Illini had just kept it close a couple games of late.

They have. My take on the game - Illinois has a good running back. A very good kicking game. They don't cover the pass very well and that will hurt them. I think this is a 28-17 game Ohio State.

Should be an excellent game tomorrow and there's no pressure for either team; just pride on the line.

Ever since their slow start for the USF game, Florida has been more on form. Tennessee is always a tough rivalry, and they slaughtered Kentucky. Gators could give 'Bama a run. Arkansas has shown that Alabama is vulnerable if you don't have a tendency to throw game killing interceptions.

Looked at PSU-Iowa, but Penn State hasn't shown me anything this season to make me think they are capable of an upset, and Iowa has brought headaches to better PSU teams than this one.

By last Saturday night I was thinking that Penn St. might be the victim of "biggest surprise" for getting the lawn mower to their back side. Iowa by at least 17.

Lady during the BYU game said that Bama would face their first true test tomorrow. Apparently she did not watch the most watched CBS game in 7 years. Ark lead Bsma for 57 minutes out of 60. I would call that a test. I hope Florida beats the snot out of Bama. Go Gators!

I think Army will push Temple at home, if they control the pace of the game and if Temple doesn't have Bernard Pierce. Indiana will have the offense to give Michigan a run for their money if the secondary doesn't shape up in a big hurry. Florida International will really push Pittsburgh deep into the 4th quarter, but I think the Panthers have more talent so they'll pull it out (and FIU will go to a heartbreaking 0-4, as they have played toe-to-toe with Maryland, Texas A&M, and Rutgers so far).

Other than these, I hate the upset matchups this week. I don't think the Stanford/Oregon, Penn State/Iowa, or OU/Texas games could really be considered upsets since they really could go either way and look like a few point swings. Anyway, if I'm going out on a limb, my two games where I definitively take the underdog will be Iowa State over Texas Tech in Ames and UC Davis over San Jose State.

That's just spite for losing... not viable interest.

I think the way Army has been playing, they really have the ability to control the clock, regardless of who Temple has on the field... though, Temple has the type of team to strike, so it could very well go either way ( but I wouldn't consider a loss by either team an upset, unless it were a blowout ).

Eric wrote:Indiana will have the offense to give Michigan a run for their money if the secondary doesn't shape up in a big hurry.

Not-so-much, Indiana is Indiana... the only thing driving the Hoosiers tomorrow, will be the thought of revenge for the team who completely screw them out of a win last year ( that catch by the Indiana receiver that was torn out of his hands by the Michigan defender on the ground... and then the replay official chose to call it an interception... that was a hose job )... otherwise; Indiana will play like Indiana.

They'll hang in there for a while, then, the Wolverines pull away, and don't look back.

Eric wrote:Florida International will really push Pittsburgh deep into the 4th quarter,

This game is in Pittsburgh; if it goes late into the 4th, Pitt loses.

Pitt is teetering right now, and losing @ home the way they did last week, and getting put down @ Utah in week one... the Panthers could fall into the given up conundrum.

If not, then Pitt comes out with something to prove, and International gets the hammer; it won't be close at all.

Eric wrote:I don't think the Stanford/Oregon, Penn State/Iowa, or OU/Texas games could really be considered upsets

Agreed; none of these are upset games... rather, just some hype for the media if a lower ranked team wins ( even if they are equal ).

Eric wrote:if I'm going out on a limb, where I definitively take the underdog will be UC Davis over San Jose State.

For the same reason as the above listed games; I am not sure you could call this an upset alert scenario ( eventhough UC Davis is an FCS program ) ... as they are fairly equal in skill & coaching levels.

Your right...I don't like Bama. And games like last Sat. make me like them even less. I hope they loss every game they play...the same way I wish Texas would lose every game they play.

However, I am interested in this game. For 2 reasons: I think it will be a good game, and it has big implications on how the SEC races will play out. Of course a Bama loss gives Ark hope that they still have a shot at winning the SEC West.

If Florida, LSU, Alabama round robin each other into at least one loss, and if you beat Auburn in a couple of weeks... Arkansas still has a chance. A tougher road than it was before last week though.
