The Southwest Classic: Ark vs Texas A&M

Postby Dossenator » Tue Oct 05, 2010 9:12 pm

Well, this Saturday is the 2nd annual Southwest Classic: #11 Ark vs Texas A&M. The game is played in Dallas Cowboy Stadium (owned of course by former Arkansas guard Jerry Jones). Last year Arkansas beat A&M 49-17.

Image

I expect the same type of game as last year. I watched A&M play Ok State last Sat. Jerod Johnson throws a terrible looking football. He has 8 turnovers in his last 2 games. A&M trailed FIU in the 4th quarter this season. I will be disappointed if the Hogs do not win by 21 points or more. The Vegas line is around -6 Ark right now (not sure I understand this (maybe to get a larger amount of money coming in from both sides....do they really think A&M will keep it that close or even win). Unless Ark turns the ball over or commits a ton of penalties I do not see this game even being close. I hope I am not being over confident, and setting myself up for a huge disappointment.

Here is a good reason to never take the Texas A&M Aggies seriously. Can someone explain to me what the purpose of this would be. Never have I thought to myself that grabbing my groin and screaming is a good thing. This school is off limits to my daughter (no way I want her ending up with a Aggie crotch squeezer).

What's your thoughts about this game?

Can't speak for the video ( ), but I think A&M keeps it close. If Vegas has them as six point underdogs, something is going on with that one. Remember, Arkansas did beat lowly Georgia too on a last-second touchdown, so maybe away from home they won't play as well as they did against Alabama. And I'm not sure what Jerrod Johnson's problem is because he has been able to operate that offense very well in the past. There's something wrong with his psyche I think.

Of course the spread was close last year....but the Hogs won 49-17. This is a new season however. The spread opened up at around -8 and has come down every day so far. Also, Johnson did have shoulder surgery in the off season and many are saying he does not have the arm strength to make most of the throws right now. That would explain how bad his throws looked last Sat....most were floating, wobbling ducks. There will be more Razorback fans then Aggie fans at the game. Dallas has the largest Arkansas Alumni base outside the state of Arkansas.

Tough lines...Georgia, as bad as they have been, are favored over Tennessee.

I think that there is enough parity, to keep some lines close.

From the website: Team Parking Allotment Sold Out
We have sold our team allotment of parking for the Southwest Classic.

Now there is a game I really want to attend. No parking...plenty of tickets left, however. 8) 8)

Being an Aggie fan can you explain the video I posted above? Not sure how grabbng one's unmentionables and screaming helps your team out.

How smart is that? You build a stadium that holds over 100,000 fans and you don't have enough parking.

I give A&M a 25% chance of winning...

If A&M plays great and Arkansas plays lousy, A&M Wins by a small amount
If A&M plays great and Arkansas plays great, Arkansas Wins by 10 points
If A&M plays lousy and Arkansas plays lousy, Arkansas Wins by 10 points
If A&M plays lousy and Arkansas plays great, Arkansas Wins by 40 points

I guess you could probably say that about most ranked vs unranked opponents though.

Amazing that this line has moved from Arkansas being favored by 8 1/2 to the current line, as low as, Arkansas by 5. That is a huge swing for this early. Not sure why, other than I have heard rumors of Greg Childs maybe not playing due to injury from the Bama game.

I just don't see the game being that close, but there has been a lot of money wagered on the Aggies for the line to have moved over 3 points.

I am with you Razorhawk. Also, the lastpractice report I read said that Greg Childs has been practicing full speed and looks to be 100%.

Wish I was there. I plan on going next year if I am living in Ark by then. Enjoy the game and make lots of noise when the Aggies have the ball. Be safe tonight.
