I know the Big East is totally up in the air this year and I realize that West Virginia figures to be the favorite, but nobody is talking about the Cardinals. Louisville seems to have gained a lot of confidence after their win against Eastern Kentucky by pushing Oregon State to the edge on the road. They were also blowing out Arkansas State before the Red Wolves came back a bit.

Only reason I bring up the Cards is that, besides the increase in apparent ability this year, they get South Florida and West Virginia at home. South Florida doesn't figure to be that great this year and if Louisville can upset Pitt on the road, all it will take is an upset of West Virginia at home and then they could, believe it or not, be BCS-bound. Also, they face Cincinnati and UConn at home as well.

I'm not predicting Louisville to win it, I just think they will finish 5-3 in conference and stay in contention.

Do you mean, 5-2 or 4-3 .?. Big East = 8 teams -1 for themselves = 7 opponents...

Personally; right now I think So florida has what it take to beat them ... I also think West Va & Pitt take `em down ...

Cinci could be a real game for them , actually should be , seeing as the Bearcats have been less than expected ... and Rutgers could be another toss in the air ...

And who knows with UConn.

Right, I meant to say that they have a potential for a 5-2 conference record, if some breaks go their way. They could just as easily wind up 2-5, or even 0-7 because everybody in the Big East can beat everybody else on a one-game basis, it appears. Even Syracuse and Rutgers (who appears to be the worst team in the conference this season).

Syracuse

And as for Louisville ... I guess we should be watching out for them ... or at least those on the bottom should ... because they just might fall ontop of you ...

Well, UL did better than I thought at 6-6 with some we should have won; however, considering the state of the program last year I won't complain.

And, while the long term is unknown, I do believe that this year Charlie Strong has convinced me he can coach at lot better than Kragthorpe did for his 4 years. Once again I am having some hope for the future.

If he hangs around, and recruits as he has so far, the next two years should be giant steps back to respectability.

I agree. Strong can coach defense for sure. I don't know how inflated the Big East defensive stats are since most of the conference is very bad at moving the football, but the Cards have a much-improved defense. I remember 2007, Kragthorpe's first season. That was one of the worst tackling defenses I had seen at an FBS level (until 2010 Michigan ). They have gotten a lot better.

You know Charlie Strong is an Arkansas boy. Born and raised in Batesville, Arkansas and he attended the University of Central Arkansas.

I just read that he was named Big East Co-coach of the year.
