As for the NC, Texas is out, they have 2 losses. (But every year we creep a little closer to a 2 loss team having a shot.)
I think the more interesting thing to look at right now is not the highly regarded teams. 1 and 2 loss and even some 3 loss teams that could hold poll carnage in their hands.
SEC
Florida
Miss St.
Georgia
Big 10
Northwestern
Illinois
Michigan
Penn St.
PAC 10
Oregon St.
Cal
USC
Arizona St.
Big 12
Texas
Kansas St.
Texas Tech
Baylor
ACC (FSU is still in this hunt, it just isn't seen yet)
Va Tech
Miami
UNC
Ga Tech
NC St.
Clemson
Maryland
Big East (WVU is not in the hunt, but the only team Ihave heard of having a clear path to the BCS)
Cincinnati
Louisville
Syracuse
*UConn or Rutgers (can't see both NOT turning the corner to some degree)
Again on FSU, I think they are the best team nobody is even talking about. But then I look at this list of teams who could upset the apple cart (enough ability) and every team on FSU's schedule is on here after this weekend. They are only ranked 17th but if you look at the 7 teams right in front of them...well they can play with all of them and I think they are clearly better than at least 3 of them.
People like to bury teams as early as they can, but this is college football...many things effect teams early. Some transitions take a while. Florida St. was still transitioning and they are the best of the class plenty of skill and less transition. As I watched UofL and Cincy last night, all Ii could hear was "Danger, Danger WVU" and I already had the Cuse on that list. And you can't ever take UConn off the list, they can always come out and play a mistake free game and good assignment football, make 2 big plays and win. I see a whole lot of The Living Dead walking around! And having teams like Florida, Texas, USC, Va Tech, UNC, and Oregon State and even Penn State (3 losses) wearing Scarlet Letters has to mean problems for somebody...all are 2 loss teams...and it just don't sit right with me this early in the season.
Heck look at 3 loss teams, the more losses the more hunger, the more apt a team is to let it all hang out. If I looked at a schedule with Georgia (4 losses, ridiculous!), Penn St., Clemson, Cincy, Louisville, Boston College, and South Florida....I'd be real nervous! Boise State, TCU, Bama, Florida St., Nebraska, and Oregon could come through it (*85% chance) because of enough balance on both sides of the ball (and from different areas). Everybody else has a significant enough weakness to get knocked out!
I think Poll carnage is out there and gnawing at the bit!

Some, going unmentioned, have them executed before the trial.

2 loss teams have NO CHANCE. Too many other teams that are legit.

And Nebraska goes down to that 2-loss, un-ranked Texas team. Here comes the carnage!
