LSU v Auburn
Only saw the last 5 minutes of the game, but I saw that 4th down attempt by Les Miles.
Did you see how disorganized they were?? Les MIles is a terrible coach IMO.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

The reason they were so disorgranized is because Les was on the phone to Iowa helping them call plays on that last drive. PATHETHIC both of them!!!

Very true. I was watching the Iowa game and am a huge Ferentz fan, but his time management control has been a problem before. Ironically, one of his biggest was against LSU in the Capital One bowl, but by a fluke, won the game anyway.
Iowa's special teams cost them this game. They missed an XP and a fairly short FG. They also allowed Wisconsin to get a first down on a fake punt in an obvious situation for the fake.

QB's take some of the blame also. They have to know how many timouts, where you need to be on the field and the clock. Just part of the position. Or someone on the team should have couseled Stanzi. Everone in the stadium knew what to do.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Re: LSU v Auburn
LSU was completely lost on that 4th down attempt. Les is not a good offensive coach...he definitely does less with more. I do have to say his defenses are solid and his special teams are special. LSU's punter was out of this world today...downing I think 5 or 6 punts inside the 10 (with a couple downed on the 1).
Cam Newton is the real deal folks. LSU is a top 5 defense...they were giving up about 80 yards a game rushing until today. Auburn rushed for over 400 yards with more than 200 by Newton. He runs over, and around defenders...and he has speed....and he has a strong arm (not just a threat to run). Just like in the Ark game defenders were in place to make the tackle and he would over power them or run around them...or simply blow by them.

Newton ain't no joke ladies and gentleman! He might be the lead horse in the race I won't name at the present time.
Man I hate it, I was on a nature call and I missed Les doing more at the end. Some of the best entertainment you can bring into your living room!

So, why is it that Newton doesn't get labeled as being a system QB? Gus Malzahn's offense is a "system" just as much as Leach's or June Jones'.

Labeling somebody, uhh, er, ummm...or taking a "jab at", or "making fun of"....we reserve that for white males...especially white males who are also Christian. He don't fit the profile to carry a label that might take away from his achievements. Simple as that.
Could be. Malzahn's offense hasn't really been as pass-happy, even at Tulsa, in recent years so maybe people lose track of the "system" or "gimmicks." But with this system, you can turn a QB as mediocre (raw talentwise) as Paul Smith into a guy who can chuck the ball for 400 yards a game.

Re: LSU v Auburn
Not saying it is the case here...that he is a system QB. But they would never label him as such.
The only label that would really matter anyway is not playing in a pro-style system. Getting it done is getting it did...but if you are trying to assess next level...

Right, but that logic doesn't count for Kliff Kingsbury or Colt Brennan. Or even Graham Harrell in an 11-1 season.

I think a lot of that is because of his ability to improvise and run the ball so well. Leach's and Jone's QBs were predominately just passers. That would be my guess. Malzahn's offensive scheme does not really consist of the QB as a runner, but since Newton is such a good runner, he is adapting his "system" a bit.

Re: LSU v Auburn
The Auburn-Bama game will be interesting. I'll pull for Auburn as usual. It is going to come down to how well Auburn's defense can handle the Bama O.
I'd estimate that if Auburn scored 24 on LSU they will score about 27-30 on Alabama...and I think Auburn will show more improvement in the next few weeks. That is shaping up to be one heck of a game. But I really like how Auburn's schedule falls. They have Ole Miss, Chatanooga, Georgia, then Bama. Bama has LSU, Miss St., Ga. St., then Auburn.
Auburn has a down slide coming that will provide for some rest, polishing, and development of depth for 2 games. Then they get what I think will be a really good Georgia team, especially on offense but one I think they will outscore and can really use to sharpen their defense. Bama has a rough one coming and then a game that will require them to play hard. But then they have a light game, and they will prep for Auburn that week. Still, I think Aubrurn will look awful fast and awful large to them through the first 9 minutes of the game. And they will be in a game where that will likely be more than enough to cost them the game.

The thing about Newton is that often they are running a power running game out of the spread....he just simply runs through defenders. And he is athletic enough to run around them as well. Defenders will have him stopped for a loss and he somehow find a way to pick up 5-10 yards....or to complete a pass down the field. When he does throw the ball he has a good delivery and seems to be accurate....puts a lot of zip on the ball. I am sure part of it is the system but a lot of it is his talent.
You could put the system label on just about anyone....look what Petrino did with Casey Dick (doubled his production, or more, from when Nutt was coach). Then huge numbers with Ryan Mallett and the team does not miss a beat when Tyler Wilson comes into the game.
So system or talent. I say the superb talent makes the system look even better.

Yep, you put a talented guy in a system and his talent is not of that form or styling...the system doesn't look as good as it might. And you can take a hugely talented guy and he will make a system look better than it really is.
