Well, they are bowl eligible with a 6-2 record. Losses to Bama (let that game slip away...lead for 57 of the 60 minutes) and Auburn (special teams gave up 14 and the refs gave Auburn 14....hard to overcome....but even with that, Ark lead in the 4th quarter).

Mallett is having a great year even after missing 5 quarters of football due to injury.
Malletts numbers: 2,449 yards, 20 TD's (18 passing, 2 rushing), 66% compl perc, 7 Int's.
Game by game:
Tenn Tech (301 yards, 3 TD's, 1 Int)
LA Monroes (400 yards, 4 TD's, 1 Int)
at Georgia (380 yards, 3 TD's)
Alabama (357 yards, 2 TD's, 3 Int's)
Texas A&M (310 yards, 3 TD's, 1 Int) (neutral site)
at Auburn (96 yards, 1 TD) (knocked out in first quarter w/concussion)
Ole Miss (196 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int) (knocked out early third quarter with bruised throwing shoulder)
Vanderbilt (409 yards, 3 TD's)

Arkansas lost starting running back and kick returner in week 2 to a freak accident. Dennis Johnson fell on a ball and tore his bowels. He was lost for the season. It has taken some time but Ark finally found a running back to step up and fill the void. Knile Davis has solidified himself as the starter and go to back. Ark was averaging less than 80 yards rushing a game after the first 4 games. In the last 4 (since Davis has become the starter), Ark has averaged over 150 yards rushing a game.

Arkansas has been dealing with WR injuries for the past couple of weeks. Greg Childs and Joe Adams were both knocked out of the Ole Miss game due to ankle injuries. Adams missed the Vanderbilt game and hopefully will be ready to go against South Carolina. Childs injured his knee in the Vanderbilt game and it did not look good. I hope Ark did not lose him for the rest of the season. Good thing Ark is deep at WR.

The defense is improved from last year but they still give up 2 or 3 long passes a game...usually TD's. And Cam Newton ran all over them (I guess he has done that to everyone). Ark's best performance came against Vanderbilt. Ark limited Vanderbilt to half of their total yard average for the season. After the first quarter Ark gave up 0 points and only 14 total yards to Vandy.

Ark has 4 remaining games. 3 of the 4 games are against top 25 ranked teams: at #20 South Carolina, UTEP, at #21 Miss State, and #12 LSU. I am hoping for a strong finish but it will be tough.

Go Hogs!!!!

And I guess Mallett's numbers are not Heisman worthy...all he did was break the Ark passing yards for a game record on Sat (he broke his own record of course). Even with misses 5 quarter due to injury he still ranks among the best. I think Cam Newton deserves the award but Mallett is not even mentioned anymore. Not sure why...oh, he plays for Arkansas....that's why.

And the two losses came to then #1 Alabama, currently #5 and the current #1 in the BCS Auburn. As you stated both of those games could have easily gone the other way. I watched the Vandy game last night and Mallet made some bad throws, and the Arkansas fans just expect him to never make a bad throw.

If you ever visit Hogville then I am sure you have read many posts about why Mallett should not be starting. He set the school record for most passing yards in a single game Sat with 3 TD, 0 Int's and completed well over 60% of his passes against Vandy for goodness sake (what do they expect). I guess they believe Tyler Wilson would have done better. Lots of Ark fans are just crazy...after every game, win or lose, it's fire this coach, hire this coach, this guy should be playing, this guy should not be playing, and they can't stop talking about Nutt. Not sure how the fans can not be happy with Mallett...they must not remember how they complained about not having a passing game under Nutt. Now they have it and they still complain.

Try checking the Purdue board. With all the injuries and having to play 21 freshman to boot today, a second year coach, there many posters griping about firing the coach. I am afraid expectations rise each year no matter how good you are. A perfect season followed by a 1 loss season will bring gripes at Alabama. Part of the territory.

The stat from the Vanderbilt game that stood out to me was Mallett set the school record for passing yards in a game with 409 yards....and Ark had not one receiver with 100 yards receiving. Talk about spreading the ball around. You can't just shut down one or two guys.

GoBoilers...I bet all fan bases are crazy and overreact to wins and losses. It's just I visit Ark boards frequently so I don't see what the other fan bases are saying often. Good to see that the crazies are not just in Arkansas.

That wont' stop Purdue from scoring 40 against Michigan in two weeks

Too many times fans remember the play you didn't make. This seems to occur more with the more successful players. And comes more from fans who expect a great deal, yet you really don't see them applying themselves to anything that has any form of greatness. (I use to love hearing the conversations about Eagles and Sixers players when I worked at the Postal Service..."he's a bum"..."he hasn't improved".."he doesn't work"....mostly from the laziest, little worth, and no-drive kind of people. I used to laugh at the irony, it just had me bent over many times!)

Arkansas on most team's schedules might be undefeated and #1 through #3...

Exactly, I just posted in another thread as to why or how is Arkansas ranked as low as 18th. Both losses could or should have been wins, and they were against the current #2 and #6 teams in the BCS.

Exactly.

Also, Hogs are going to be without Greg Childs for the next 4-6 months (so out for the rest of this season). He sustained a patella tendon injury that requires surgery against Vanderbilt on Sat. Also, Joe Adams may not play for the 2nd straight game with an ankle injury. So it looks like Ark will be without it's top 2 WR threats going to South Carolina. Luckily the Hogs are deep at that position....TE DJ Williams will get more looks, Jarius Wright and Cobi Hamilton should get more catches, and look for Gragg and Horton to get valuable playing time.

South Carolina has a WR and RB that concern me. Hopefully, Ark can limit the big plays. If they can do that and continue to run the ball effectively I like Ark's chance to win this game....even without Childs or Adams.

Just watched Petrino's post practice press conference from today and he talked about another injury to a defensive lineman. He called it a dirty play by Vanderbilt. He said the Ark dlineman was running after the Vandy runningback and he was clipped from behind below the knees and came up with an ankle injury. Later in the interview, around the 10 min mark, Petrino was asked about his wording of dirty play. He said he was angry....this was the third time this year an Ark player was injured from dirty plays. He said the Mallett concussion and Joe Adams ankle injuries were both horse collars and then the clipping from behind. You could tell Petrino was mad when talking about it...his face was red. He did not say it but was implying why was their not a single penalty called on any of these plays.

You can watch it here (10 minutes in):
