LSU by Gawd...I like these boys

Postby billybud » Sat Nov 20, 2010 8:11 pm

LSU just does what it needs to do every week against a very tough schedule. They showed heart to drive in the last two minutes to get ahead of Ole Miss.

With their only loss a close game @ Auburn. and the schedule they have played...I have LSU very, very high.

I don't think Ole Miss contributes to their difficult schedule.

Ole Miss is a much better team than their record shows.

Tell that to Jacksonville State, mediocre Tennessee, and a horrid Vanderbilt team

I don't have anything against LSU, at all. I think they are a great team that didn't play their best game today and did what it took to win. But I'm a little peeved at the perception of the win by LSU and the perception of the win by Michigan State today. Ole Miss is probably better than Purdue, but any difference between the two is probably negligible. I know CBS wants to promote the SEC, but it's okay to call a spade a spade. Ole Miss' defense is about as porous as Michigan's and beating them at home is hardly anything to get excited about.

Eric, Ole Miss didn't contibute...but Auburn, Alabama, WVU, and North Carolina aren't the WAC. And, Ole Mis, with all of their losses is way better than the Fresno State's.

Ole Miss is kind of the Penn State of the SEC, only they played Bama better than Penn State did.

I doubt that. Penn State most likely would not lose to Jacksonville State, Tennessee, or Vanderbilt either.

Penn State scored only 3 on Bama...Ole Miss did better with 10...Penn State didn't play Ole Miss's schedule so you can only surmise...but I think they are in the same league and the Lions would do about the same. They certainly didn't look good against Bama.

Penn State's Total Offense through last week was ranked #74... Ole Miss's Total Offense was a perfect reversal #47.

The Total Defense ranks were PSU at #52 and Miss at 71....

In fact, I think there is chance that Penn State would indeed lose to Vandy, Tennessee, etc.

Depends on the breaks...Northwestern's closest win this year was the two point win over Vandy. Iowa didn't come closer in their 3 point loss to NW.

Oh sure, that chance being very miniscule

Tennessee now with Bray certainly would have a chance, so maybe I shouldn't penalize Ole Miss that harshly. But getting absolutely slaughtered by Tennessee is another story altogether. And Vanderbilt is pretty much the caliber of a WAC team this season.

Mr. Sagarin (whose ratings I'm told are accurate representations of reality) have Ole Miss currently at 83 and Penn State at 47. Ole Miss is one spot ahead of Sacramento State. Obviously ridiculous, but it's Sagarin!

Right...Like Vandy didn't play Northwestern better than Iowa.

The same Northwestern team that got run over by Penn State's rushing game. You can use an isolated game to illustrate a point (and for the record I don't think Iowa isn't a top 25 team this season), but you have to aggregate the body of work. Lou Holtz is right when he says it's a different team every week. You can't expect to have some rational system where teams play at the same level every week.

Sagarin also has Tennessee as higher than Penn State on his preferred Predictor...The Vols would give up points.
