I wasn't surprised that the Noles beat the gators, but I was surprised how far off that they have fallen so quickly.
When Jimbo pulled Ponder with 8 minutes to go (and up 31-7) and had the back up just run the ball (no passes) to run out the clock, I expected Urban to try to make a move. I think that he was content to let the clock run and the game to just end. He threw in the towel.
The gators have real problems in the secondary, have quarterback problems, and, IMHO< coaching problems as well.

Not sure Meyer really had his heart into coaching this year...just speculation. The Gators have lost a ton of NFL talent the last two years.

They've fallen off;
You can't keep pointing to their loss to the nfl, and say that is the answer.
Miami has fallen off too, however, we lost a lot of talent to the nfl, and were able to keep ourselves on top, by recruiting well. And we fell off, when Coker recruited players based upon their national ranking, rather than recruiting the right players for the positions needing support.
florida has done just that; recruited high in the national scope. However, they haven't developed the talent they have.
Urban played a 3 qb system this year. Many would say he was rotating his qb's with a different game plan. The rest of us who know better, see it as his lack of having the qb prospects that he relied on so much.
Also, I have seen some blame all of the non-productivity woes on the lizards offensive coordinator.
If the OC was the problem, one would think meyer would have taken over. The more simple explanation, is that meyer peaked, and is now waning.
Like Miami, when you recruit as well as the top 3 florida schools do, you should be filling the gaps in your back up depth; you should already have the talent to step in and fill those positions vacated by players who have left; graduation - nfl - transfer , what-have-you.
In the end, there are no excuses to be made. You are either successful, or you're not.
Right now, neither Miami or florida are that.

Florida and the top programs have lost plenty of talent to the NFL before, and never seemed to miss a step. I will not lose any sleep over the Gators, Longhorns or any of the top programs having a down time. I actually think it is good for the conference and probably for college football.

Meyer really has never been anywhere he had to evaluate talent. That may be the issue. He has also lost asst coaches that help evaluate talent and that hasn't happened to him before either. Meyer is an excellent X's and O's guy, we are going to find out soon whether or not he is the total package as a coach. I kind of think he is burnt out and in a little over his head. If he isn't fired by Florida, I look for him to retire in the next five or so years.

Having Tebow and Harvin makes it a lot easier to be good....

Oh, I agree. That is not the first team Urban has taken good players and won. He just hasn't really stayed anywhere long enough to build or maintain a program. Honestly that is key to all the great coaches. Bobby Bowden built and maintained. JoPa, Bear, Hayes, etc... they are did it. Current great coaches - the five plus year guys - have done it. Meyer hasn't. This may have been just a down year or maybe it is a sign of something with Urban. He may have had all his marbles in the Cam Newton basket and that didn't work out. Who knows why, but I suspect he has less than a couple years to come up with some answers.
Zook on the other hand is a wonderful recruiter and a terrible X's and O's guy. You have to be the whole package.

If he gets the kid he wants at QB (and he has one he is recruiting that is a Tebow like guy in HS), he'll be able to make a run for the SEC East.

I don't understand the need to be down on Florida this year. They've taken a step back for sure, but they were playing some really young talent and they were thrown to the wolves. This team is probably going to go ballistic next year. Lest we forget, these recruiting classes have been through the roof.

So were Miami's; and they haven't produced in 6 years.
You can't rely solely on the recruiting class, hoping for something big, unless you are reproducing that talent level.
When your recruiting classes have been "Though the Roof", you shouldn't fade, you should thrive; the whole, not rebuilding but reloading theory.
If you continue to recruit so well, and it isn't working out, you have to wonder if the recruits were really as good as advertised.
In Miami's case, that hasn't been the way the "Blue Chips" fell.
Harris, Mr Florida football player.
Marve, Mr Florida football player.
Freeman, Big name Texas recruit.
Wright, Massive California recruit.
None of them worked out, and all of them were star prospects.
Where was the evaluation; all in the paper stats.
Next year will be the big tell for meyer. And if the gators are still struggling, then this season was exactly what it appeared to be.

Who's down on Florida? What "need"? Or is this just more of Eric?
They just aren't good this year because their offense has real problems at QB and their secondary can't defend. They do have one of the best recruiting classes in the country coming on line from last year.
But...the Gators are not good right now and their offensive coaching is suspect. Their OC is as good as gone.

Texas is justr surprising. Nothing really pointed to the fall. Recruiting was good, no coaches changes. I don't get it.
