Boo Johnson didn't practice since the end of the regular season and Ernie Hodges (DT) didn't get to come at all because of academic problems. Jackson is OU's complete offense. Hodges is the big guy on their dline. They probably weren't going to beat Troy anyway, but Jackson and Hodges really let their team down not taking care of their business.

Troy appeared to have much more speed on the field. Fun offense to watch.

Lousy bowl games today...all were one sided.
BYU was completely in control against UTEP and the score could have been in the 60's. BYU pulled Heaps, their QB, and ran the ball for the last half of the 4th.
Northern Illinois was clearly a better team than Fresno...and Troy was much better than Ohio.

They controlled the edges on defense and completely contained Jackson. Jackson is OU's only offense and he couldn't get out of the pocket.

Northern Illinois was head coached in this game by interim coach Tom Matukewicz, who is their linebackers coach. Incoming coach Dave Doeren has made sure to keep him on staff. That win seemed pretty improbable to me after losing the MAC Championship Game. A very good job by Matukewicz, who's made it clear that he wants to be a head coach in the future.

The LT especially was horrendous in this game. Troy just controlled the line of scrimmage in that one. Their defense has gotten shredded by just about everybody this season except Ohio. Before the inevitable "speed" issue is brought up, I should say that Bowling Green, a team that stunk it up in MAC play this year, did play this Troy team to within 3 points in Alabama. So....
I know for a fact that defensively Ohio got gassed.

OU defense didn't do well. I never meant to say they did. It is hard to play well, though, when the offense keeps putting the D in a bad positions and can't keep the D off the field long enough to try and keep some fresh legs. Troy just beat them up. Solich is a one trick pony on offense and his pony didn't practice before the bowl game and probably shouldn't have played period because of academic issues.
