Players all keep their promise...

I admit, I didn't think three of them would keep their promise. While I still believe they should have been suspended for the bowl game, I think it hurts Ohio State more to have them suspended all those games than if they sit out the bowl game. The bowl game this year didn't mean anything and next year they had a chance at a national championship that will be next to impossible now.

Isn't only the fifth game versus Mich St the only real contest? Also, is it not possible for the suspension to get changed?
They will be allowed to practice and scrimmage with the team, won't they. If so, this would be less detrimental than having these players injured and not able to even practice.

I'm not sure they are allowed to practice either - but I'm not sure about that. Michigan State and Miami are two that could be tough. I think that because these guys will not have played in a game for nine months and then start with Nebraska, it will be tough. I don't see the NCAA lowering the suspension. Too much bad PR for them anyway for the Cam Newton and this decision and I don't think there is anything new here that would get the suspension lowered. They did what they did.
I would have still rather them start their suspension with the Sugar Bowl and then have the first game be with Michigan State.

If they are not allowed to practice then this is a real concern for the team. If they can practice, as I said, this would be easier than coming off an injury, which is done all the time.
Individually, I think this might eliminate Pryor from Heisman consideration, although Cam Newton was not on the Heisman radar until mid-way through the season.
No tears from this Hawkeye, as even with the suspension Ohio State will be the favorite and probably win the Big Ten again, however this year they will have to win an extra game, either against someone in that other division, whatever it is called.

Of course they can practice...all kids on an NCAA game suspension practice. North Carolina's kids that lost five games last year practiced, just sat out the games.

No chance at a Heisman for Pryor. I'm not sure he really had a chance without this, though, he has a long way to go in his decision making.
I wouldn't expect tears.

Ohio State should have a shot at the B-10, because they get a couple out of division games with those five players before divisional play starts. The will lose one of the early games, though, either Michigan State, Miami, or Nebraska and that will put them out of the NC picture.
I was just surprised they came back. I honestly thought Pryor, Herron, and Posey would go. I thought it was possible Adams tried to jump, although, he isn't ready. If they can practice, it will be easier, but you can't replace game time with practice. Maybe players will think about that next time they decide to break the rules --- probably not.

A little more info has come out on the players returning. If they decided not to comeback they wouldnt be allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl, not use any of the workout facilities, not be able to perform at the osu day for the nfl, not finish their degrees unless they paid for it. So basically, if they didn't come back they were banned. That explains alot. I would have prefered they did it because it was the right thing to do, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

It appears the NCAA has dropped the ball again on this case. No reason to shorten the penalty.

With the internet and personal blogs, particularly that look like official news, many rumors get started and perpetuated. This may be just that.

No way they should drop it to two games. If they do, they let the players get away with it. These guys didn't do anything illegal and I understand that, but no one is ever going to convince me they didn't know they couldn't sell that stuff per NCAA rule. I was born a few days before yesterday.

Yeah, I'm not up on the spam sites. I saw it and got mad that the NCAA would even think about knocking off 60% of their punishment.

I guess the fact that I would believe it tells you something about the credibility of the NCAA.

No way they should shorten the penalty, it is already way too short. When Akron's QB found himself in a similar spot in 2009 he never returned to the team. This is because Akron did the correct thing and suspended him indefinitely while allowing him to keep his scholarship for academic reasons. Schools should send the message that playing is a priviledge and the rules must be followed, just because you are the starting QB or star player does not mean you and/or your buddies should be treated differently.
I'm still wondering where the school-imposed suspensions are for these players. A respectable program headed by an honorable coach like Tressel has to take some action themselves as well, don't they?
