Don't live in a glass house! As I have opined on an earlier thread IF your school is consistently in the top 15 in fball OR bball thre is ample dirt under current rules to flame almost every program.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Interestingly, one of the coaches named as being in on the shenanigans with agents is now the Gators recruiting coordinator...and several UF players were implicated while visiting at Miami.

Dang it...I logged in with Link-in-hand ready to expound on this fiasco only to find Billybud beat me to it.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Re: See ya, Canes...
I also want to spark a discussion on how this is different from what SMU did? Sure, the "slush fund" was not coming directly from the school...but according to the crook (how well can he be trusted?) several football and basketball coaches knew about it.

Re: See ya, Canes...
The difference is that SMU was given several chances after being caught, and never stopped.
Also, a year ago, the Miami compliance office immediately went to the NCAA with the information when shapiro told the athletic department what he had been doing.
So, even though this is a news story, this is not actually a new story.
Like I posted in the other thread; forfeitures of wins, probation, possible post season omission, scholarship reductions are all plausible penalties.
An instantaneous withdrawal of scholarships to those players who were involved that are still on the team should take place.
Those names need to come out; but even Golden isn't allowed to talk to the players about it ( as per NCAA mandate ).
This is actually slow rolling, because the NCAA just now is interviewing people at the University. Even after Miami went to them 14 months ago.
It only is coming out as news now, because shapiro shelved his "tell all" book he was writing, and decided to interview with yahoo.
Personally, if this was going on, I'm glad it happened to come out.
We certainly can't move forward with this sort of nonsense.
Also note, that shapiro's getting involved with the players, took place just prior to the Canes' spiraling downward. If this is all true ( and much of it looks to be ), shapiro started offering cash to the players in 2002. Roughly about the time Miami started slumping.
And if it continued into April of 2010, as he claims. Then his influence seems to have been more of a bane, rather than a boost.
Especially if shapiro's bodyguards were, quote "escorting Hurricane players home because they were too drunk to make it home on their own".
Nobody needs that kind of garbage going on.
It just has the feel of a little nobody, trying to be somebody, by buying his way in with the popular crowd. However, in the process, turned the popular crowd into a bunch of degenerates & scum.
Looks as though he did more to hurt the team than anything else.
I've had my ear on this for a while, but I needed more info before I could really mention it.
I'm trying to find the drop on who, as current players, are implicated ( as many as 16 ).
That is where the biggest impact on the future of the program is going to land.

Re: See ya, Canes...
The SMU payment scheme was approved at the President's level...the school had institutonalized cheating with the knowledge of their adminiatration.
Out of control boosters are hard to control...but the institution itself is in on the payola...then you have an SMU type situation.
One part of this that I find disturbing, is the three year bounty on FSU QB Chris Rix. If it can be corroborated that there was such a bounty, I don't think the NCAA can ignore players trying to injure a QB to win a $5000 prize. It is past the four year limit, but is serious enough that the NCAA might reach back. I am sure that Miami's administration had no knowledge of this bounty and thus am not sure what, if any, action could be taken.

Naw...UNC is about in the shape that Ohio State is. Nothing too awful is going to happen.
Miami? It looks bad from what we read...but so did Ohio State when it first broke. But Iexpect the Canes to get whacked.
The hole the NCAA is in is, after they hammered USC, how do they lay off schools with similar infractions and not look biased? Folks everywhere in the south are still awaiting for something to happen to Auburn.

Re: See ya, Canes...
unc is in worse shape than OSU, they have the academic cheating prong of the investigation as well as a coach working for an agent which OSU didn't have. Both had lots of improper benefits but BD was smart enough to never acknowledge that he knew anything was going on whereas JT finally came clean. We'll see how deep this cane situation goes, but it doesn't look good at first blush.
