Well, the news keeps getting worse for LSU. Not only is their starting QB suspended indefinitely (along with a defensive player), they will be without their #1 WR Russell Shepard against Oregon and possibly a lot longer.

LSU may keep it close if their defense comes to play. But they will struggle to score points on anyone. If Oregon can stop LSU from running the ball then game over.

Oregon will have a difficult time scoring though, so that will make it close. LSU's defense is looking really good, so that will keep the game competitive. I don't see LaMichael James bursting out 30 yard touchdowns because the penetration that the LSU line gets kind of messes up their lateral movement that they use so often in their option scheme.

I put LSU at #1 for my season opener poll....That will change now.

Oregon's offense does well against the Pac 12...against Auburn and LSU, not so much. Kelly said that they don't see the athletic guys who are so big and fast out west.

Nobody will do well against a really good defensive front...and LSU has one. Auburn, with Fairley last year, also had a fearsome front.

I think you are right about LSU's defensive front, but that said, Kelly is a master of finding a way to not be responsible for a loss while taking full credit for a loss.

Kelly needs to pay attention....bigger faster and stronger is not a SEC exclusive. He should worry more about his players abilities and less about the Nike connection.

Yeah...it was those flat black uni's that made Oregon look smallish and fast.

Oregon does well until it runs into an elite defense like Ohio State, Auburn, or LSU. I think Chip is being fairly honest about the defenses he sees in the Pac 12 on a weekly basis. Kelly is 22-1 games other than the OOC games for the big marbles..and there he is 0-3.

In about the only marquee match up of the week for the PAC 12, they made a terrible showing. Oregon played as good as they will play; they are not going to get better. The were confused as to assignments, their speedy played never confused LSU, only themselves and the play calling was relegated to student-body right and left. Wrapping up to tackle was taught on a rainy day when most players did not come to practice. LSU played well. Hard to play well against a disorganized team.

Chip Kelly seems willing to throw an entire conference under the proverbial bus to make his mediocre team look not so bad. He may have made converts on the East Coast with his Elmer Gantry evangelism, but the flock of those that got him there are not speaking so kindly of that same sermon. But what do you expect when you take your money for uniforms and locker rooms, buildings and endowments and not for players. Heck, this is the school that paid some Southerner $25,000 dollars for film of a player they may never have even watched. As for this parishioner, I am not quite ready to genuflect at the Alter in Birmingham.

What Kelly doean't get, it isn't big or fast, you can have both and you can recruit both. Lots of great teams do just that. Most SEC do it because they have to to keep up with the rest of the league. The bottom line is that the Zone read doesn't work against the elite teams. It can help you win week to week, but you have to play big boy football if you want to win the big games.
