Copied from a Purdue thread but, it makes a lot of sense:

B1G:

East: PSU, OSU, Purdue, Indiana
North: UM, MSU, *ND, Wiscy
West: Minny, Iowa, NW, Ill
South: Nebraska, *OU, *Mizzou, *KU

SEC:

East: UF, SC, UK, *Louisville
North: Vandy, UGA, Alabama, Auburn
South: MSU, OleMiss, LSU, Tenn
West: *TAMU, *OSU, *TTech, Arky

Pac12:

East: *Texas, *KSU, *ISU, *BYU
South: Zona, ASU, USC, UCLA
West: Cal, Stanford, Colorado, Utah
North: Oregon, OSU, Washington, WSU

ACC:

North: BC, *Syracuse, Maryland, *WVU
West: *Pitt, *Cincy, UVA, VT
East: Duke, UNC, NCST, WF
South: Clemson, Miami, FSU, GT

Decent programs left out: Uconn, USF, Rutgers, TCU, Boise State, Baylor, Fresno State, Hawaii, Houston

That's how I think based on equity the 4 major super conferences should shake out. You play the teams in your division every year, and then 2 teams from the other divisions once a year for 9 conference games. You have 3 non conference games remaining. You have conference semifinals and finals from the 4 division winners, and then a final four of the conference winners for the championship. In basketball, you play your division rivals home and away, and then each other team once for a total of 18 conference games.

Toughest inclusions are Kansas State and Iowa State. Toughest exclusions are Rutgers, Baylor, and TCU.

And for what it is worth, that is my dream 16-team BigTen. Add ND, OU, Mizzou, and KU. All 4 programs bring something, are congruous states, and have rich athletic histories.

The problem is 4 won't get it done well. I don't like leaving the respectable programs out.

I'd have rather seen 5 or 6 - 16 team conferences with a more equitable talent distribution. More supers could still happen...with the next best 32 teams filling out 2 more conferences. Those left out could be the upper echelon for the next 2. But these....Uconn, USF, Rutgers, TCU, Boise State, Baylor, Fresno State, Hawaii, Houston...would make for a pretty good conference. And even better when you add BYU who I couldn't find in the post. Stil morel, Air Force, Navy, Bowling Green, S. Miss, UCF, and one of (Temple, SMU, Marshall, Ohio, or Toledo). That is not a shabby 16. Just going to 5...which does include everyone who is likely to have better than a 3% shot over a 4 year period.

I think for sanity all these conferences need to set down in a convention and carve things out where things make the most since for all involved. My concern is some better teams will get left out when sorry teams like Indiana, UCLA, Iowa State, and Duke could get "grandfathered" in!

You were diplomatic by not putting Purdue in the "sorry" state also! LOL. At least for football. I am fearful of where we are headed. I could see a super convention and go to 5-14 team conferences.

And the disconcerting aspect of some of the good programs left out only gets more unrealistic when considering the basketball aspect of it. Is Syracuse now put in against Maryland and Duke, who specifically did not want to face that possibility when the ACC raided the Big East several years back, while being pulled away from UConn and Louisville? The alternative is to disconnect further the football conferences from the bb side of things, which IMO really screws with the tradition and rivalries in play. Is Connecticut expected to get up for a game vs 'Cuse or Pitt like old times, while returning to a football non-entity, despite the fact that Big East football has fit them like a glove?

Not to rip into this setup too much, since I gather that it is pretty much just one guy's thoughts, which is where everybody is at this stage. It highlights the logistical limitations to the Superconference talk though. You can also add to that the fact that the budding Superconferences will be deciding their members by picking off disgruntled outcasts, adding in geographical oddities (Big East TCU), and raiding the carcasses of dying conferences, rather than by any mutually organized and debated setup.

That is my problem...this is going down like a Kmart "Blue Light Special" on payday and everyone is looking more and more like the housewife out for a deal!

At the next season ending convention they might as well re-draw all conferences paying attention to some history and geography. For example, the original Pac 8/10 and Big Ten and the SEC are already solid with their original players from 20 years ago. The ACC, Big 12, Bid East, C-USA wtc are newer and traverse more geography so I opine they will be imploded into the future super conferences. It is coming and I hate it. $$$$

I'm with you. I don't want to see it come. I do think that we really aren't going to 16 team conferences we are going back to 8 team conferences - playing a one game play off with a sister conference,

That is really it. And if you have to play like 2 or 3 games from the other side...then it is still that with a much better OOC schedule to boot!
