Pretty interesting. It is getting easier each week now for me to be Okay going and watching the local high school team. Like my interest in professional football died...I can see that happening with collegiate ball...

Texas and Oklahoma are no more part of the Pacific Coast than Utah and Colorado. Arizona and Arizona St was a stretch. To allow football greed to destroy traditions built over the years is right in line with the immorality of centralized control of the individual.

I think some Saturday afternoon High School football will be fine this week. Probably will watch Boise play Tulsa on the TV....Boise..they sold their soul...

I've said something similar to my wife.

I told her, with 16 teams conferences, I'll likely reduce my time watching football to just 1 game a week; for the Miami games.

Other than that, the rest of the country will look rather bland. Not as much on the line every week, so not as much interest out of me.

The most obnoxious thing about this situation is just how large it is all getting. How are you in the same conference if you have eight main opponents to go along with eight teams you never play in football except for a possible conference championship game? Even if they get two cross-division games, there is no conference unity felt whatsoever. It was big enough of a stretch for 12 team conferences where you don't play everybody.

They will be 16 team conferences in name only. We are going back to the 8 team conferences. I'm not sure I hate that.

Blah, why would you limit yourself to two 8 team conferences. Why not 4x4 with 3 in-conference, 3 roving conference, A North/South and East/West Divisional game, a CCG and 4 OOC.

Move the Orange Bowl and Rose bowl to Second weekend in December. Big 10(16) Champ Vs. Pac-16 Champ(Rose Bowl), ACC Champ Vs. SEC Champ(Orange Bowl). Each conference with it's four sub conferences could have a qualifier for the Divisional championship game. Each divisional winner must have 8 wins or be subject to losing their spot to a team on the outside. Max 1 substitute per conference.

Ex. Kentucky wins the SEC north but has a 5-7 record. Boise St. being ranked top 5 with 12-0 would take their spot and play the SEC South for birth in the SEC Championship game. If the SEC South team lost they would still be their Divisional Champs. If Boise were to win the CCG they would get the Orange Bowl bid but the loser of the CCG would still be the Conference Champion. Even if Miss St. won the SEC West with a 6-6 record they would be safe from replacement because Boise was admitted to their conference playoff system.

Losers of the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl play in the Fiesta Bowl in Jan. Two top 12 BCS non playoff teams play in the Sugar. Should there not be a top 12 that didn't get into the playoff then any top 12 team not committed to the Fiesta, or NCG.

AND

There you have it. A 16 team play-off where the real winner is on the field.

Vileborg....I need to see this on a critical path flow sheet. One thing all this realignment may do...hopefully not what you suggest...but may do..is make wins count and dump that arbitrary SOS.

I think that is what they are moving toward, except the conference winner is the first round of a playoff. I don't think the games will be at the traditional bowl sites. I don't see the B-10 schools wanting to be left out of hosting playoff games. Right now all the bowl games except one are exhibition. They don't matter. Make them matter and people will feel differently about playing 1000 miles or more for games in which they are the higher seed. I also think you will probably have an eight team playoff instead of sixteen games.

Yes they do. And if the goal is to make Collegiate football like the NFL, there are many models to use. Maybe that should be the goal. But I do not think that is the goal nor should it be. The purpose of the NFL and the sole purpose is to make money through entertainment. Along with that is secondary economic gain for many businesses. The NFL, along with other professional sports compete for entertainment dollars. (And...in that arena, collegiate sports is a competitor.) But that is there sole purpose, if that stops, so does the entire industry.

If that is what the goal of all of this is for collegiate sports...well...they are well on the way. I am not a big proponent of this Student Athlete label. They are students. Period. We don't call them Student Debaters or Student Actors. These are what started out as extra-curricular activities. I do not want our institutions shanghaied by the greed and avarice of those that lie in wait to seduce minds of those being educated that learning is is unnecessary and takes a secondary role.

People are free to choose what they want to do. They can be bakers and candlestick makers, actors or athletes; just don't destroy a cornerstone of our country for the cupidity of a bunch of rapacious Saturnalians.
