Texas Longhorns

So when you get a Network do you get bonus points in the polls? How does a team go from NBE and get wins over Rice, BYU, UCLA, and Iowa St. and be ranked #10 and #11 in the polls? :?

I have to assume that over the next 2 weeks they will lose to Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. But I then also have to suspect that losing to teams ranked 3rd and 6th means they will still be ranked in the top 20. And I am no Texas hater, not at all, I have plenty of friends who are Texas fans (of course) so without a real legitimate reason to dislike them, I have to pull for them. I, still, after all of these years hate much of the rankings shenanigans. {And let me note, I'd love to see them beat Oklahoma!} But I ain't buying that ranking by a good measure!

Texas is one of 10-12 teams that only needs to win to be ranked. It isn't fair, but that is the way it is.

I get that Spence, but ugggh...they were especially bad last year!!! It hurt me to even watch them. I don't have a problem w/ the dozen teams that just need to win to be ranked. 75% of the time it just saves time to be realistic. But w/ last season in mind, which I think is very relevant, and their current SOS (not that we know a whole lot yet), Top 15 is quite a stretch. Now, this is what gets me, the credit that the Oaks will get by beating them...and I'll have to hear all the hype about the top 10 match-up this week and the grandness of the Red River Rivalry!

Well, I think it's justifiable because who else are you going to rank ahead of them? I ran into a situation where I had a ton of fringe top 10 teams (Florida, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Nebraska), who are all probably better than Texas, lose. I'm uncomfortable with having a team lose and stay where they are when they don't lose to a top 5 team. Texas is undefeated right now so I'm moving them up for the time being.

The season will sort it all out. I don't really even pay attention to the rankings at this point.

I think they moved up by default because as Eric said a lot of teams ahead of them all lost. They will probably lose the next 2 and fall right back out and then eventually work their way back to about #20 by the end of it all.

They moved up for the same reason Boise State moved down.

Boise State shouldn't have moved down. There was no justification. The manipulating of the polls is wrong. I have said before that homerism should be expected in individual polls, but negative ranking - against teams is what polutes a poll. You can't have those things and have an honest poll. I thought the polls were pretty honest before the Nebraska thing early in the BCS, since then, they have been unfair.

If Texas handed the reigns to Case McCoy and said it's your team and your time I'd give them a shot against Oklahoma. This two QB system that MB thinks he's manufacturing wins with won't fly against good competition. It's like Va Tech's run game, it works when your playing "X" fill game of the week but not against real competition and coaching.

McCoy is every bit the gamer just like his brother. He may not look good on paper but anybody with an IQ over 3 shreds the paper when you see him play. Unfortunately, MB's IQ is a struggling 2. Give him the reigns, let him make plays and win games for you. The whole team has been uplifted by the hope he brings. When you see a guy duck four guys in the backfield and pick up an open receiver on the run for 30 yards you want to contribute and your willing to give more of yourself to help that guy out.

If Case McCoy starts and is allowed to do his thing then I give the Longhorns a good shot at winning. If Mack tries to rotate Ash in every other play I think OU walks all over them.

Mack Brown needs to take off them high dollar threads, put back on a blue collar shirt, and get off his cloud nine that Colt McCoy put him on and go back to learning how to coach. He gets some of the best talent in the country and he squanders it unless theres a McCoy under center. Colt made him look like a genius, and when he was exposed last year we found out that unless he's in the shadow of a McCoy the emperor's new clothes don't look so good.

Granted McCoy never brought them the crystal ball but he at least gave them a shot and had he not been injured in 2009 he may very well have brought it home. In four years he lost 8 games. 3 of which he was injured but recorded the loss as a starter. Two of which he was injured early in the first five plays and his team couldn't do anything to win the game without him.

Number of games lost by the Longhorns last year? *****"7"*****
Number of games lost when McCoy played more than a series? ****"6"**** in four years.

We'll see Saturday what the Horns are made of. I believe they'll be beat by 14+. If so, my next comment becomes more valid. Notre Dame-as much as I destest them, is the best 2 loss team in the country closely followed by Texas A&M. Now that is going out on a limb!

I think A&M is the best two loss team. I don't think it is close. Notre Dame has a pretty good team too, not as good as A&M IMO.

That is what I call laying it down! Mack doesn't even seem the same anymore...softer in speech in mannerisms, not that he ever was a cowboy.

Like I said...not even close to #11 or 10! The river is red with Longhorn blood! 34-10 @ the half.

Texas is exposed. A&M and ND could run their schedule except A&M has the tougher schedule to do that. OU will be tough.
