Here is the CFP users poll after game 5 with should give a good idea about where the teams stand after enough games have been played to get a real opinon.
1. Alabama 217
2. Oklahoma 216
3. Louisiana State 212
4. Boise State 190
5. Wisconsin 186
6. Stanford 179
7. Oklahoma State 176
8. Clemson 155
9. Michigan 143
10. Georgia Tech 135
11. Oregon 127
12. Arkansas 119
13. Illinois 117
14. Nebraska 89
15. Kansas State 87
16. South Carolina 87
17. West Virginia 76
18. Arizona State 64
19. Houston 64
20. Baylor 53
21. Virginia Tech 53
22. Michigan State 50
23. Texas 41
24. South Florida 14
25. Rutgers 12
Others receiving votes: Southern California, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Texas Christian, Penn State, Auburn, Georgia, North Carolina, Washington
I think the first five teams are dead on, you can argue the order, but I think those first five teams are the five best teams in cfb this year.

The 1st 5 are spot on, that is the 5. But I think somebody is partying with Garcia in regards to the 9, 10, 13, 14, and 15 spots. Although that quite often is the hardest area to pick about this time.
I'd take SC, WVU, Mich St, Va Tech, and ND to pull at least an .750 against those schools. (Well SC wouldn't be a good bet until the Garcia hang over has subsided.)
But Michigan and Ga Tech are a case of the depends, Michigan could beat about anybody and also lose to anybody depending on the play of 1 player and the offensive play calling. Ga Tech is vulnerable to a good defense with speed to the edge getting a good week of triple-option practice in not real easy but at least a dozen teams could deliver on that pretty easy. But I do realize each is carrying around that notable doughnut right now!

I think you are right....those one loss teams, tough to figure out the order. I don't believe the best teams in the country will go undefeated. Boise may go undefeated, but not sure that means they are the best team. The Oregon Stanford game will be enlightening. Oregon, I do not think is the team they are ranked to be. I have watched them three times and they have issues unless they play a weak team them they go through them like a Metamucil mixed in Florida heavy pulp orange juice.
What never is really defined is what are the polls trying to determine. If it is the best team(s) in the country, then I think you maybe should have some one loss teams on top right now. If it is the most deserving based on performance, then I would still shuffle the list. If it is a sublime, Freudian effort to get the best two teams to compete in the end, the polls having capitulated to the anything but independent BCS, then this list is probably okay....because you have the two biggest moneymakers at the top. If in the end you can get an SEC school versus a PAC < 12 then you possibly have the money maker they a really want. Stanford may fill that roll if they got undefeated. Would that be the best two...they will discuss it while the king is in the counting room counting out his money and we all are eating bread and honey.

The poll is on the CFP user poll page from preseason. This poll, though, reflects the opinion of the board after enough games have been played to actually have a grasp of what is going on. Some teams on the first poll that didn't really deserve to be there are gone. Some that are better than we thought are moving up.

That top five, yes and I'd say also that next four... clear first and second tier whichever order they're put within their respective grouping. Michigan and Clemson in particular are playing better football than I expected pre-season. Michigan won't get Wisky unless they meet for the Big 10ish championship, but Mich/Mich St. should be a fun test to watch for them this weekend.
The 1 lossers are hard to call, as are Illinois and Houston. Houston has a horrible SoS, but the system I'm tweaking likes them insanely much even so. Illinois meanwhile will have a chance to prove themselves, as the comparatively easy half of their schedule is behind them. If they can handle Ohio St, Penn St, and Michigan, then they deserve to face Wisconsin on near-equal footing. Georgia Tech is also a decent running team, but I fear they'll have trouble against Va. Tech and Clemson, without a better passing game for balance.

I just want to note that 9, 10, and 13 all lost this week and 14 didn't play. K State gets one more week of living the dream...then we have 4 good weeks to see where they fit. (They sure seem to be the UConn of the Big 12...must be a basketball school thing. But they might bore a team or two to death in that run.)

Spot on. Especially about Kansas State. They are good but, how good? We'll see. And, Notre Dame I believe will run the rest of the table. They have athletes!

I voted for Penn State at #25 but didn't see them listed on the poll anywhere. Just asking

I don't know. They should be at least listed in teams to be named later - unless I just hit the wrong schools' button - which I'm not immune from. I try to check them before I finish the vote, but if they aren't there then I missed it.

Yeah, I think it was just an auto-correction because you actually ranked Penn St. Oh crap, I did too. I had them 24th. I guess that makes me a big homer.

If you both had them on it I don't see how I missed them on two different polls. The way it works, though, I can't go back and look at them after I enter them. Someone ranked La- LaFayette and that showed up so the only thing that makes sense is that I missed them twice.
