The BCS certainly did think of the situation of having two teams from the same conference play for the NC...the rules address that fact..in an arcane rule, if, by chance the #1 and #2 BCS ranked teams are not the conference champion, the conference may be awarded a third BCS Bowl for the champion,,,

Two - non-champions...that means both. Which by some opinion could have happened this week had Georgia been victorious. Yet I am not so convinced. I think LSU could have retained #1, but I think Okie State would have went to #2.

Then if LSU loses in a rather competitive game to Georgia you could likely get 1) Bama, 2) LSU, 3) Arkansas and then you would have Georgia ranked between 6th and 9th. (As it would be very hard for a voter to move Okie State past any of these teams without moving them past all of them. That triad pushes a strength by dilution situation.)

How would you like to be Arkansas in that scenario? Imagine being #3 in the country and not getting a BCS Bowl.

Arkansas is probably going to be #6 in the country and not get a BCS bowl this year.

That all depends on whether they put bama in the NCG. If they do, then Arkansas will get the Sugar and Georgia will get the Cap One.

If bama does not get the NCG, they will get the Sugar. I think.

Derek, apparently you do not understand how the BCS works. The only way that the SEC or any conference gets a third team in a BCS bowl is for #1 and #2 to be in the championship game and neither of them having won there conference championship. This may never happen. This year, had Georgia beaten LSU and won the SEC, Georgia would have been in the Sugar Bowl. And if after losing to Georgia, LSU would have remained in the top 2 with Alabama, they would have played for the National Championship.

Arkansas has no chance for a BCS bowl and as the team with the third best record should be in the Capital One bowl, but it looks like the Capital One may take South Carolina. The next biggest SEC tie-in is the Gator and indications are that Georgia may wind up there. Then comes the Cotton Bowl and probably where Arkansas winds up.

There are conferences and there are CONFERENCES...

Not winning this year's SEC doesn't have the same meaning as not winning the Big East, ACC, or Big Ten.

In a year when a #2 SEC team beats more BCS teams (double most contenders) and plays the #1 team (in the country and SEC) to a tie...that isn't the same as VT not winning the conference.

Nope..not a post aimed at any poster...only those who say in general..."if you don't win your conference, you don't play for the NC"...

That might be true in almost every year...but the SEC west this year is not a usual year...and the game between the #1 and #2 wasn't decided in regulation...it was the closest of games and really did not state definitively..."this team is the better team".

I fully understand the BCS and if Alabama does not go to the NCG, they will go to the Sugar. So yes, Ark has a SMALL chance of a BCS bowl.

The rules say that there CAN be a 3rd team. Read the top of this thread.

It seems Lou Holtz understands that Bama should not go, and if this holds....Arkansas will not get a BCS game.

There is no way that Arkansas has any chance to be in a BCS bowl, under the current BCS rules. Nada, Zip, Ninguna. There is only one scenario for three teams to get to a BCS bowl, and I spelled that out. With LSU #1 and Alabama #2 or #3 or anywhere ahead of Arkansas, the Razorbacks are OUT.

I really don't have a problem with it, as it is spelled out in the BCS rules.
