Utah State v Louisiana Tech Utah State won its first-ever road game against a ranked opponent and is now 2-50 all-time against ranked teams as its only other win was a 20-19 home victory against No. 25 Fresno State on Nov. 2, 1991. If you have ever been to Logan, then you know they need any bright news they can get. Louisiana Tech is a good ball team and losing at home in OT when your hopes were so high, is tough, but they lost to a tough, well coached team; Anderson will be Coach of the Year at some level, certainly the WAC.

Oregon v. Stanford. Oregon met a very good defense and that was that. It was not a fluke, Stanford has proven they are consistently good. This was a big fall for Oregon; they may not even represent the North in the PAC 37 championship…(another ridiculous change brought on by this countries incessant need to rank everything. When did we become the United State instead of the United States?)

Ohio State v. Wisconsin. If you were going to pay money to see a game today, this would have been the one. Another example of Collegiate Sports, in all their hypocritical glory, punishing a bunch of players for the sins of someone still not at the school.

Kansas State v Baylor The team behind the curtain. No wonder Dorothy left Kansas…only question is, why did she want to come back.

Boise State v Colorado State. Boise won, no one still cares. But now with the Big East crumbling, after yesterday’s news, who knows where the team for the state that has no city will end up. Maybe back in the Mountain West, where they belong. (The Big East is going to have a West division…is there a sane person left in the United State anymore?)



Florida State v Maryland. Well, an easy schedule served FSU well, they may jump into a BCS bowl. I think they get grabbed quickly, they bring a complete entertainment package and that is a good thing. So why do we let ESPN/Chinese MSS get away without showing the Star Spangled Banner being played before any televised games?)

Oregon State v California A thrashing. The civil war game will now be a barn burner. Winner/loser will not gain or lose anything post season. And there is no ‘Duck’ on the Oregon flag.

Well now they don't have to manipulate the polls too hard to give the SEC their annual coronation. Of course, better them than the alternatives who I'll now need to give #1 in my poll. Now we have Grayghost out on the other end of the country who's going to be forced to decide if he has to hold his nose and root for USC for a week.

On the plus side, 'Cuse has managed to clinch themselves a bowl, not something I could have expected after the 2-4 start. No idea which bowl it will be yet. They seem to like us down in NYC, but there's still a decent chance we could finish #2 in the Big East and play one of our future ACC rivals down in Orlando instead.

I don't loathe the SEC, but I sure don't want an SEC vs. SEC national title game. I don't think the BCS wants one either, as last year's matchup didn't madly illuminate the ratings lamp.

I'm curious what weight will be placed on a Alabama win against Western Carolina in this week's BCS standings, as 'Bama and Oregon each have one close loss against ranked teams in power conferences.

And Donovan, they should start airing the national anthem before games again on TV. It gets me amped when they do it on hockey broadcasts, they should do it on college football telecasts.

I think the elephant in the room is that, if we want to talk about who gets to play for the national title, the schedules are bad for the most part. If you look at Florida State, I would give them two quality wins against Clemson and Miami (I know they have looked spotty, but I still consider them a team with talent that is capable of putting a well-played game together). I would give Oregon three quality wins against Arizona, USC, and Washington (but they don't have the marquee victory like Florida State does). I would give Alabama two quality victories against Michigan and LSU. I would give Georgia one quality victory against Florida.

If Florida State beats Florida and Alabama beats Georgia, I see no reason why Alabama gets to waltz in. Sure their schedule may have been tougher from top to bottom, but when you are as talented as Alabama, what is really the difference between Missouri and Boston College? If you want to look at good wins, I see Florida State with wins over Miami, Florida, and Clemson. Alabama beats LSU, Georgia, and Michigan. I can understand why a rational person would say Alabama has the better resume (especially with the better loss), but the fact that they will waltz in unopposed is due to plain SEC bias. If you look at their schedule, everything outside of those three teams I mentioned is terrible. It's not functionally different than Florida State's. Especially if Georgia were to somehow knock off the Tide, the fact that Georgia could waltz in with that blowout loss on their resume also speaks to the lazy assumption that if a team goes through the SEC, they must have gone through a gauntlet that no mere mortal could pass through.

So basically to recap, if Florida State goes through their slate 12-1 and Alabama goes through their slate 12-1, I see no reason why Florida State, if given Alabama's schedule, couldn't also go 12-1. And I could see Alabama going 12-1 on Florida State's schedule if they had to face Clemson and Florida.
