Clemson v. Spurrier

Postby Derek » Sun Nov 25, 2012 1:27 am

I didn't see this happening. Did anyone pick USC to win this one??

Love him or Hate him, the man get's results.

At the beginning of the season, I think some of thought that Clemson might take the ACC this year.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I was a little surprised. I had figured Shaw would be out so I leaned towards Clemson. This was a game of a high-octane offense meeting a great defense and a mediocre offense minus their star running back and starting QB versus a mediocre defense. The result was something in between.

And you're right. It took Spurrier a while to get the Gamecocks winning games at a highly consistent level, but I think he's at the point where they're a perennial top 15 team. Their recruiting has gotten a lot better since he started and it's showing on the field.

Well, let's not forget that Lou Holtz pulled So Carolina outta the basement, and improved the recruiting vastly. He had the Gamecocks headed in the right direction when he retired, which set Spurrier up nicely.

Spurrier then complained to the university about not being able to recruit the players he wanted, do to academic standards that South Carolina held high regard for. He eventually won that battle, and now he's allowed to recruit . . . not so high gpa students.

Holtz never complained, and could have done wonders more too. But he was use to having a higher academic recruiting field, from his days at nd.

I guess, Spurrier just needs to dumb things down a little, in order to be successful.

If not win, then certainly challenge fsu for it.

The ACC took a hit Saturday. Clemson losing, Ga Tech losing (though mostly expected), and florida state losing.

Miami beating Duke, winning the Coastal division; with a self imposed Bowl ban, is ineligible to play in the ACC title game.

North Carolina, due to NCAA sanctions, is ineligible to play in the ACC championship as well.

The conference is really going to need fsu & Clemson to win their Bowl games (likely in dominating fashion) in order to keep a foothold in the hunt for next year.
