I was a little confused with the call to shift all of the offensive lineman the other way. If I'm Michigan, I want Taylor Lewan on Clowney 100% of the time. I would throw out any running play that doesn't involve either him or him with some double-team help out of the playbook.

Michigan drove me crazy a little bit with some of the defensive calls. It was a painful loss to take because there were so many correctable mistakes. The secondary was mediocre for most of the year and it showed in this game. The pass rush needs blitzing in order hit home and that left the DBs on islands. Not to mention the missed sack (rather, three of them) that could have changed the nature of the game.

If I'm Michigan on that last down, I think I'd take my chances with South Carolina's kicking game and not give them any big plays downfield. Kovacs didn't fall back far enough in coverage because he didn't think they would go deep, and they did. Good call by Spurrier, but boy do I hate losing to Spurrier.

Sorry Eric. That hit by Clowney was something else. I will be glad when he is in the NFL and not playing in the SEC.

What about that bogus first down they gave Michigan right before the Clowney play. Wow....not just a bad call but outright cheating by the refs. Out of curiosity does anyone know what conference the refs are from that officiated this game? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr- ... ncaaf.html

And after watching the video several times, no one even tried to block Clowney on the play. How in the world do you not know where that guy is on every play and have a plan to try and block him. Not a finger was laid on him before he makes contact with the running back.

I think they were Big East. I hope I'm not confusing that with another game today. So many bowl games to take in, it's hard to keep track of them all

I don't know what happened on that play. The line shifted to the right and Clowney hit the gap. They pulled the right guard left, like he was supposed to close that seam, but good luck meeting Clowney there with that kind of motor. I guess it was karmic that they got the ball back after that hideous spot. The guy is an NFL player. I don't see any reason why he needs to be in college for another year.

I still really like the coaching staff that Hoke has assembled and I think Borges and Mattison are high-quality coordinators. But you can't deny that when they made bad calls, they really, really paid for it.
