An early scoring outburst by Darien Brothers helped the Richmond Spiders defeat the Hampton Pirates 72-51. Brothers had 15 points in the game, but scored 12 points in the first seven minutes of the game. Kendall Anthony chipped in with 14 points for Richmond.
Hampton had a chance to make a statement for themselves and the MEAC, but the Pirates laid an egg. The Pirates shot just 25% from the floor and was 2-of-18 from 3-point range. Darrion Pellum, the Pirates' best player, scored just 8 points, making only 3 of the 17 shots he attempted. This is the second time this year the MEAC had a chance to show off the conference but failed to do so. Morgan State hosted Murray State but lost 80-69 to the Racers.
