The Cal Poly Mustangs closed with a 20-7 run to defeat the Cal Irvine Anteaters 66-50. The game was tied 24-24 at the half when the Mustangs went on a 11-5 run to start the second stanza. The Anteaters got within five points a couple of times in the remainder of the game, but the Mustangs basically controlled the second half with defense and strong shooting. The Mustangs shot 42.6% (26-61) from the field while holding the Anteaters to 36.2% (21-58) shooting. The Mustangs had eight steals in the game while Cal Irvine only had one.
Senior foward Will Taylor scored a game-high 16 points and senior forward David Hanson registered his third double-double in his last six games by registering 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs. For the Anteaters, Daman Starring had 15 points and 9 boards. Freshman Will Davis II had 13 points off the bench for Cal Irvine. Cal Poly is 2-2 in the Big West Conference and 11-6 overall while Cal Irvine falls to 6-11 and 3-2 in conference play.
