Nolan Richardson Going To Arkansas State?
I thought it was a done deal already but I guess it isn't. Richardson went to Jonesboro on Thursday to have talks with Arkansas State officials. He classified the talks as being "ongoing".

I still, will be surprised to see this happen.
I just read that the deal fell through, as Nolan was wanting an assurance that the gun toting Notes Richardson would succeed him in the head coaching position. Now maybe, Nolan will look towards Missouri St.

Re: Nolan Richardson Going To Arkansas State?
The official news came out yesterday that Nolan Richardson and Ark St could not reach an agreement. It also stated that Richardson wants to coach and is looking for the right fit. They mentioned...I believe....Southwest Missouri State (could be wrong). I will try to find the article again. It would have been interesting to have Nolan in the state of Arkansas. He always recruited well....even at the end when the Hogs were slipping he had players like Pat Bradley, Joe Johnson (who is a star in the NBA now), etc. I think if he was still at the UofA that the Hogs would have done well with him. But I don't feel bad for him getting fired. I sat and watched him say on national television that they could fire him he didn't care...in fact I believe he said I want them to fire me.....and then said that he was treated like the slaves who were brought to the country by ship. Anyway, great coach....he just made a bone headed mistake and it cost him. I wish him the best if he finds a new job.

Re: Nolan Richardson Going To Arkansas State?
I really don't think Nolan wants to coach again. At best, he is trying to get his son Nolan Richardson III, aka"Notes" a job. One of the stumbling blocks with ASU was that he wanted it agreed that Notes would become the head coach when he stepped down. I really think Nolan just wants the attention and really does not wish to move from his ranch outside of Fayetteville.
Nolan was a great coach at Tulsa and in his early years in Fayetteville. He did get a little lazy/complacent at the end and his teams started slipping. His continual use of his status to get on the racial soapbox became a very tiring experience and also an embarrassment to the University. I loved him when he was there, but I was really glad when he was gone. The University, I believe has just made their last of 6 annual payments of $500,000 to Nolan. I don't think he needs a job for the money.
I really don't expect to see him coaching anywhere on a permanent basis.

Arkansas State's athletic web site made mention of the press conference today announcing the new basketball coach. The story didn't mention the name of the coach, but all indications show it will be John Brady, the ex-coach of LSU.

John Brady has accepted the job and will be paid $100,000 a year for 5 years. LSU will pay him the difference of his settlement minus the $100K. Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse. LSU to Jonesboro. Strange move for Brady.
