Southern Methodist-Southern Mississippi

Postby BYUfan1 » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:21 pm

Southern Mississippi came back from 26-23 deficit at halftime to defeat SMU 56-53 in what was a basically an ugly game. The Golden Eagles shot 38.8% from the floor, and the Mustangs were slightly better at 43.5%. SMU had a chance near the end of the game to take the lead while done by one when Gary Flowers missed two free throws for USM, but Papa Dia had the ball stolen from him off the rebound by R.L. Horton with 4.3 seconds to play.

Flowers scored 17 of the first 29 points by Southern Mississippi in the game but did not score any the rest of the game. Angelo Johnson helped out Flowers with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist while playing the second half with an injured thigh. For SMU, Derek Williams had 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
